Is there a Mac that would run ATS well?
By 'well', I mean medium to high settings and a solid 50-60 FPS.

My whole tech ecosystem is Apple; iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch. I love this because I love how all of my devices work seamlessly together. The ONLY reason I still use a Windows computer is because of my gaming hobby - if it wasn't for that, I would've switched to a Mac years ago.

Anyway, hoping someone who plays on a Mac could shed some light on this. I know they're not at all built for gaming, let alone intense gaming, but I'm hoping there's something out there that would work well for me.

A decent mac will run it fine(my 5 year old mini manages 30-40 fps low settings) mods however are limited to workshop

check out the store page, you will find the reccomended specs there as a reference
my 2016 macbook pro handles it pretty well. When it rains or i have a lot of lights on it slows down a little, but other than that its great.

When you say mods are limited to workshop, does that mean you can't download mods from mod sites and put them in your mods folder? Or is there no mods folder at all? I'm unfamilliar with the Mac OS setup of things like this.

There is a mods folder but unlike windows, i could not find anything free or reliable to unzip the files. 7zip and winrar only apparently work for windows, mac you have to buy one off of the app store. I cant say if there is a compatibility issue because i havnt purchased an app to unzip the mod and put it in the mod folder to see if it works

I have a 2 years old Imac ( i5 Intel) and the game works well at medium settings with framerate drops here and there ( at night most of the time) and I've downloaded a couple of mods on mods sites, like coast to coast, canadream, Kenworth k100 and some other trucks! The only mod that I have found that do not work on OSX is the viva mexico map because it only works in directx mode ( on mac it's open GL) ! I unziped the mods with dr unarchiver if i remember ( free on the appstore) ! I suggest to have an ad blocker on mod sites ;)

By the way, i've read that with the last OSX update ( Mojave) the gamnes suffers a lot on framerates!

You would have to pay out of your arse to get one to run it at reasonable settings well.

Try The Unarchiver, in the app store and free...

All the Mexico maps work in openGL now so should be fine on OSX.

My girlfriend's 2011 iMac with the older i5 CPU and 8GB of RAM runs the game half decently but I do have to lower the settings pretty drastically. It's still better than I expected for such an old Mac.

You can easily unzip and zip files in macOS;

Have you considered running macOS on your Windows PC? It would keep you in the Mac eco system that you like for your phone, iPad and watch. There is some good websites that offer a lot of advice - it is easier than you think to get started especially if you already have compatibile hardware.

TECHNICALLY, this violates the EULA for macOS. The EULA only allows use of the OS on hardware manufactured by Apple

The purpose of this is to prevent manufacturers from building and selling Clone type Apple machines on the consumer and commercial markets. Apple takes a dim view on piracy of Apple Applications and OS.

Can you say that you are to date on each and every Licence agreement. Do you have a team of personal legal representatives to read through and advise on each and every line of every agreement on every device that you own - and every updated agreement that you acknowledge each time you click the " I Agree" option

Apple use the much the same PC hardare as many folk do in their personal PC. There is some are limitations on supported wifi and graphics cards, but Apple do support AMD RX560, RX570 RX580 cards from PC vendors.

The software I use is legal, including MS Office. Do I read every word of license agreements? No. Do I search out and read the parts that pertain to the use I intend? Absolutely.

What do I mean by this? I do PC support, if I'm going to use an app in support of someone I make sure I'm doing so within the EULA (if it's not free for business use, I don't use it for busienss purposes). Also, as a result of being a support person, and holding a certificate for repairing Apple computers, I have to be aware of and abide by Apple's EULA even in my personal life or my source of income is at risk.

I've even gone so far as to weed out my music library and remove many of the songs I downloaded in my younger years. I don't listen to the same genres as I did then anyway.
