Which is better ETS2 or ATS?
Hello everyone, I am interested in buying either ETS2 or ATS but I wanted to know the community's opinion on both of them before I consider purchaseing either games. I am looking for the pros and cons, map detail, overall game quality, etc. I can't wait to see what you guys say! Thanks

I massively prefer ATS by now.

Yes, on paper the ETS 2 has more content, more trucks, a bigger map, more mods, special transports and so on, but on a subjective level, the ATS is simply more fun (for me).

The ATS has a more consistent map and I find the classic American Trucks like the W900 or the Pete 389 just so much more cool looking than the boring european cabovers.

But the biggest thing is the driving. For one, the ATS avoids some of the annoyances the ETS has. Mainly it has no toll booths (only weight stations and those can often be bypassed) and you can drive more hours in a row, so you are a lot more flexible.

What really sets the ATS apart however are the higher speed limits in most of the states. In the ETS you pretty much join the Autobahn, Motoway or whatever, put you Cruise Control on 80 km/h and then stay glued to the right line until you have to exit again. In the ATS you have very diverse speed limits up to 80 mi/h (almost 129 km/h). Which means, even if you don't use the limit fully (and you shouldn't) the whole driving is a lot more dynamic. Some trucks will be fast then you, others slower, so you constantly have to change lanes, overtake, get out of the way and so on.

Also the ATS is somewhat more challenging, since the trailers are a lot longer and so are the wheelbases of the tractors compared to the short european style trucks. So backing them up into the loading docks is a lot more fun in my opinion.

So, I'm not claiming the ATS is objectively better than the ETS, but I personally have a lot more fun with the ATS and have played it far more than the ETS 2 by now, even though I only had the ATS for about 1 1/2 months while I bought the ETS 2 shortly after release.

Yes they are both best.

On another side note, due to the US not having many load restrictions as Europe does, this allows players in ATS to enjoy a more diverse loads such as the Caterpillar 785C Mining Truck mod if you have the Heavy Haul DLC. It's a wide and long load measuring about 213K pounds GVW. It's more challenging as it requires skills to navigate small roads and lane positioning. the US has vastly more land and straighter loads which makes it more realistic in terms of time-wise runs.
Until they add more states to ATS, ETS is where it's at. ATS should be called Desert Truck Sim.

And I'm on the lines of the exact opposite of what is now marked as "the answer" to this atm. And TBH, I'm not sure why that would be "the answer" to anything. But each to their own and all that jazz. :)

They are very similar, buy both to enjoy their differences, no reason not to.

There is no better, it just depends on what you personally prefer. They are both very good games and people's opinions don't make either one better it just makes one of them their preferred game. As Thogmar said, buy both to enjoy their differences and figure out which one you prefer. The one you choose won't make that game better though. :)

Both games have their pros and cons but they're still great games. ETS2 has more content (More trucks and a bigger map) than ATS because its a older game. I suggest you buy both during a sale and see which game you like better.

You gave one of the best answers I have ever read. Nicely written Timur.

Boring EU trucks? We actually got some quite badass looking trucks. :104:
Look at some of the Scania V8s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAPLdQgbNU8

But when I'm playing ATS I always go for a long-nosed truck, no matter the truck manufacturer. I happen to drive the most powerful: A Scania T with 730 hp of raw V8 power leaving all the AI trucks in the dust and hauling like a true "King of the Road". :steammocking:
I really would liek a US truck mod with a V8, particularly the Mack Titan V8 would be awesome in ATS.

Yeah, I have the 730 with the mights griffin pack in my ETS 2 game as well:

But he can't really hold a candle to my Pete in my opinion:

I also modded myself a C-16 engine with about the same torque as the V8 and the N14 engine sounds and the 3406 engine brake sounds from kriechbaum. Call it "cheating" but I just wanted to have the power. The engine is an Level 20 Item costing 80,000 $ after all (or so I made it). :steamhappy:

Titan 6 Thg09, 2018 @ 6:13am
What makes you say that Euro is better?

Ahh yes, when it comes to sound mods kriechbaum make some nice ones. I got a bunch of them for my Scania V8. Gotta have that rumbling and roaring when driving my truck, lol. :longhaul:
Personally I love the sound of the Cat 3408 600 hp 18 litre V8. :104:
This is how a truck has sounded in my head since I was a kid. No idea why.

Cool idea you got with editing your engine specs ... hmmm. Gives me an idea to mod the 730 hp V8 in to monstrous 2190 hp V8 sitting in Scania's chimera truck. That engine got no less that six turbos. I think I will try it out later.

10-4 and happy convoy.

ATS has better value per mile. ETS's original locations, Germany, Great Britain, Poland ect. are too generic. Pass generic farm to generic town, deliver to generic stop whereas the expansions are better than ATS. Beyond the Baltic, Italy, France are better than ATS.

With ATS you can explore the entire game in about 40hrs and kinda get a "what now" feeling whereas with ETS I have dumped 110 hours into it and still haven't explored everything.

ETS has these terrible "murder corners" where you can just be cruising down the highway and all the sudden the road takes a 90 degree on you. The expansions did away with this. You have to keep more of an eagle eye on the GPS map in ETS. ATS's roads are more fun to drive.

All the cool mods are on ETS, ATS has some fun ones but not as much content.

ATS's drive from Las Cruces to Yuma really captures the umm "realism" of the drive in real life but most of the games content is superior to ETS.

ATS has cooler deliver locations. Locations that are more fun to park a trailer in.

both games are of great value if you are into that sort of thing.
