Which is better ETS2 or ATS?
Hello everyone, I am interested in buying either ETS2 or ATS but I wanted to know the community's opinion on both of them before I consider purchaseing either games. I am looking for the pros and cons, map detail, overall game quality, etc. I can't wait to see what you guys say! Thanks

Yes, on paper the ETS 2 has more content, more trucks, a bigger map, more mods, special transports and so on, but on a subjective level, the ATS is simply more fun (for me).

The ATS has a more consistent map and I find the classic American Trucks like the W900 or the Pete 389 just so much more cool looking than the boring european cabovers.

But the biggest thing is the driving. For one, the ATS avoids some of the annoyances the ETS has. Mainly it has no toll booths (only weight stations and those can often be bypassed) and you can drive more hours in a row, so you are a lot more flexible.

What really sets the ATS apart however are the higher speed limits in most of the states. In the ETS you pretty much join the Autobahn, Motoway or whatever, put you Cruise Control on 80 km/h and then stay glued to the right line until you have to exit again. In the ATS you have very diverse speed limits up to 80 mi/h (almost 129 km/h). Which means, even if you don't use the limit fully (and you shouldn't) the whole driving is a lot more dynamic. Some trucks will be fast then you, others slower, so you constantly have to change lanes, overtake, get out of the way and so on.

Also the ATS is somewhat more challenging, since the trailers are a lot longer and so are the wheelbases of the tractors compared to the short european style trucks. So backing them up into the loading docks is a lot more fun in my opinion.

So, I'm not claiming the ATS is objectively better than the ETS, but I personally have a lot more fun with the ATS and have played it far more than the ETS 2 by now, even though I only had the ATS for about 1 1/2 months while I bought the ETS 2 shortly after release.

To be honest, for me, they're both the same game. It depends in which location you like most: Europe or America.

That is what I thought most people would say, thanks.

There are demos for both of the games. Why not try them out?

I did try both of them and I thought they were very similar, I wanted an opinion from the community.

If you have to ask that kind of question than you don't need either game because it is really just depending on which one you like the best......

ATS is the newer game, with richer features and more realistic cities and scenery. For me though it is a little more childish with non realistic driving experiences.

ETSII is the older game and has tonnes of useful addons by modders who may not work on ATS. With addon maps the whole of Europe can be driven in ever increasing details including Iceland, Poland, Scandinacia and Russia ~ some poor quality North Africa and of course the original game maps which are yet to be upgraded are positively Postman Pat.

I get a more realistic driving experience ~ however, mods and bad maps can negatively impact the experience. I tend to spend a few weeks rotating each game, ATS has that special atmosphere but everything floats more and rear shadows are not as good when they are there at all, and that leads to the low flying experience rather than driving ~ IMO the ETSII trucks are far superior.

Not sure what ATS game you are playing but it definitely not childish, nor does it have a non realistic experience.

Simple fact is that American roads are straighter with longer trucks. I do agree that some parts are non realistic, but overall it gives someone who has never driven a truck before an idea of what drivers see on the road every day.

ATS

For me ATS.
Different trucks, different handling.
Some trailers are a bit different too, for the big cargo.
Roads are also different.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Can't you wait for the next sale, and them both for pocket change?

Because I do like them both, they are the same but different games.

Being an ex trucker of 15yrs ATS is very much a simulation and not "just a game". I cant comment on ETS though. But I DO suggest downloading the C2C mod also....
