Which Trailer to buy ??? IDK
Hey guys looking at buying my first trailer to run for myself before buying ones for my employees to use.
So which trailer is best overall do you think to be able to use across all states and make the most money.
I heard something about the triples only being able to run in Nevada and also 53’ ers are not allowed in Cali. (From Canada so I don’t know all your guys rules down there sorry)

Do I go dry van or insulated or full reefer?
Do I go Rocky Mountain double and hit all states?

I drive logging truck up in BC and own a tri drive KW T800 with a tridem pole trailer and can run 130,000 lbs legally on the highways so I don’t understand all the different state to state rules.

Thx for the help

53 footers are allowed in California. You must use the set forward position on the tandems. California has a length restriction of 40 feet from kingpin to back of tandems.

Triples & Rocky Mountain Doubles are also restricted to Nevada.

Any trailer will work really, so it's your choice.

It depends on what you want to haul. If you want to haul box goods (food, beverages, pallets, etc) go for a reefer trailer, they can haul dry, insulated, and reefer products. If you want flatbed loads, then go flatbed. If you want curtainsider loads, go curtainsider.

Triples are only in Nebraska.

53" trailers are allowed in Cali, but only if the rear axles are set all the way forward.

Ok great info thx.
Maybe I’ll just go 53’ with proper tandem spacing for all states
Possibly doubles
And just try the dry for a while then upgrade as I go along to try them all.

PS can’t wait for Oregon and the wood industry.

Just an FYI, SCS already confirmed that they aren't adding (ownable) logging trailers with Oregon's launch.

Dry vans are restricted to dry goods, insulated can haul food producta but not perishable, reefer can haul all of the above. What makes the most sense?
So far there's not a lot of freight variety or quantity for flatbeds, especially doubles.
53' with axels forward is probably the most sensible choice. If you don't like backing up trailers, go double reefers.

Probably the "best" trailer to have, as far as available loads, would be a reefer. I have carried everything from food to explosives in my reefer. I personally prefer the 53', but I notice when picking different trailers on the Freight Market that doubles sometimes pay better, so that may be worth testing to see which pays better in the long run. I have noticed that you can run the 53' trailers with the drop axles fore and aft of the main tandems in California, which seems to not be correct with the law, but it works for now.

Well whether they come at Oreogn launch or not, SCS is going to keep on modifying old trailers (or make new ones) for trailer ownership. 1.32 is just the beggining, more trailer types are expected to be added eventually. Considering the current logging trailer is a relatively old model, I'm pretty sure they'll release a new logging trailer that you can buy.

Also, as many have said now, 53" reefer trailers with forward axles is probably the best trailer profit wise. It's a bigger investment at first than the other trailers, but in the long run it generates more profit as it's more flexible in the types of cargo you can haul with it.

If you don't want a 53" you could go with doubles or go with a 48", but I heard IRL depots/companies offering reefer loads many times will require a 53" trailer even it the cargo doesn't fill it completely and will reject you if you use a 48".

Very good advice thank you all.
I’ll go reefer 53’ forward axle out of the gate
And just the logging in general will be awesome for me personally even without being able to buy a trailer until an update from scs or a mod.

But that’s ok with me.
Weird that I drive a logger all day and think it’s fun to come home and drive some more logs around lol.

Something wrong with me I guess🤪
