Those are the buttons that I tend to use most. I use a skrs type shift knob for my range and splitter for manual transmission. Before I started using my shift knob, though, I left out engine brake increase and decrease so I had the range and splitter on my wheel.
I have on the wheel:
Engine
Brake
Headlight
Full beam
Wipers
Uncouple trailer
shifter toggles 1 + 2 if you shift
(I also have horn, L&R signals, world map and radio on the wheel buttons/paddles, but these seem optional and personal prefrence)
The paddle shifters act as my left and right turn signals. (I'm running automatic trans until such time as I can add a proper shifter).
The A & B and RB buttons control my lights, wipers and horn. (lights on/off, HB, wipers hi/lo).
The Y X and LB buttons control my cruise control system. (set, accelerate, coast, resume).
Stuff like beacons and other 'odds & ends' I leave assigned to the keyboard.
X = Hazards
O = Parking Brake
Square = Ignition
Triangle = Headlights
Red dial left = Retarder down/Engine brake strength down
Red dial right = Above but increase
R2 is... nothing? I guess
R3 is Headlight flash
L2 is shift toggle 1
L3 is shift toggle 2
Share is Quicksave
Option is Quickload
PS is Horn
Red dial button is activate
+ is Cruise up
- is Cruise down
DPad Up = Wipers
DPad Down = Trailer attach/detech
DPad Left = Cruise resume
DPad Right = Cruise set
Left Padal = Left Signal
Right Padal = Right Signal
And I have a USB encoder that I use to have a held jake brake
I use this exact layout on almost every driving game I play and it works out just fine.
Forgot to mention that I use Eaton Fuller 18speed.
Misc buttons for hazards, headlights, etc. A button to do trailers. The center buttons for parking brake, map, and pause. The dial button for the jake brake toggle and the wheel to tune the radio. Up and down buttons for radio volume.
On my wheel
LH top to bottom:
Cruise activate
Cruise up 5
Cruise down 5
RH top to bottom:
Camera zoom
Engine brake up
Engine brake down
Shift paddles are my indicators
On the shifter I use the full manual H-pattern (E-F 18-speed in ATS, Volvo 12+2 in ETS2)
Shifter red buttons L-R:
Range Select
Engine Start
Enter (accept jobs, refill fuel, sleep, buy garage etc)
Gear Split
D-pad:
L: Lights (Off - parkers - low)
R: Wipers
Up: High beam
Down: Hazards
Diamond above D-pad:
L: Lean-out camera (I think it's camera 6?)
R: In-cabin view
Up: Parking Brake
Down: Diff-lock
