I'd be alright with fake trucks
If it means driving around in a knockoff branded truck, that's good enough for me. In a simulator that's meant to be realistic, it's unrealistic if there are only two brands of trucks in current times America. Just throw in some cheap brand names and fuze a rubber duck on the hood for an ornament if you have to get around copyright and patents. There has to be something you can do instead of letting us paying consumers suffer.:steamsalty:

SCS got in legal trouble for doing that in ETS 1. Doubtful they will do that again.

It's not good enough for SCS. Since SCS are the people actually developing the game, I'm pretty sure their opinion is the only one that matters.

Correction: they did it in ETS2 as well and that's what caused their trouble. But the trouble was because they made their fake trucks too similar to real trucks. If they had made fake trucks that did not look like real trucks, there would have been no problem.
They could still do that now, but they don't want to. And I don't blame them. Having real truck brands makes the game feel more legitimate.

I don't think they got into any legal trouble, rather, a trademark holder was angry that SCS was using a look-alike truck with fake branding and it made negotiating the license for the real brand more difficult. It's hard enough getting the licensing so SCS has decided not to provoke more trouble in the future.

i'd be happy with any truck model that doesnt resemble any other. some old banger would do.

It happened when they approached one of the brands to get licensed, they showed them their work (with the fake branding) and the company in question did not take kindly to it. They very nearly sued them for it.

Fortunately it didn't go that far and they were able to come to terms and get a license with them.
Then make fake trucks that do not infringe on brands. Anything. Let their creativity create something new. I'm not knocking on the game, I intend to pick up every DLC except paints during the summer sale. I wouldn't have an issue paying full price if more truck were available.

Then use mods. All additional trucks will be free, anyway.

Even though it a lot of cases it wont happen, mods are not guaranteed to work and SCS clearly tells people they are not responsible if people use mods.If for some reason the mod makers decided to not update or make more mods, people will have to keep deleting and download other mods.If the conpany however makes more trucks people are guaranteed they will work with the game.Don't forget to a lot of people simply don't use mods. After a while who knows people may hold mod makers responsible for the game not working instead of the company(yes on other games I've seen it).

And rightly so! If a mod breaks a game, it is most definitely either the mod maker's fault (for making a broken mod) or the user's fault (for not using the mod correctly). It is not the game maker's fault if a mod breaks the game!

The best thing about ATS and ETS2 for me is that there are real truck brands in the games. That was why I fell in love with ETS2 years ago and now ATS. I prefer to wait for a licenced truck than use a crappy model based on nothing. I think it is enough for SCS to make the game and leave modeling of trucks to truck manufacturers and not have to design trucks as well which do not resemble any known brand.

Not having licenced trucks may suit some players but players ike me would no longer have the same affection for the game. I use mods for other truck brands until SCS gains licences for those brands and that is an option for anyone who plays the game. There are some mod trucks which are extremely good and very high quality. The game may only have 4 trucks but there are plenty of mods.

In an interview with Squirrel last year Pavel said that SCS wants to be taken seriously by the trucking industry and accepted as part of the industry. Having licenced trucks and trailers will help with that.

Just to add: If players don't want to use mods then they must accept what trucks are in the game. Complaining about the numbers will not increase those numbers and wanting fake brands will not create fake brands.

Anyone who thinks that it's SCS's fault that their mods don't work is an idiot and a moron... :steamfacepalm:
I agree. They did it for Ets 2, so why not for this game? Yes, we have mods. But what about the players who don't like to use them or don't know how to install them?

The confidence your saved won't be broken upon update. I've had to restart campaign twice due to errors.

What were those errors associated with?

If they were because you were using mod trucks then you don't know how to manage mods correctly. If you manage mods correctly then problems will not occur.

There is an option of returning to the previous version of the game if mods are made incompatible with an update to the game and you can use that until you can update your mods. Right click on ATS in your Steam Library and select Properties then select Betas and then scroll down and you will find the previous version of the game, simply select that and you are on the version of the game before the update.
