AI keeps crashing into me!
Why do I get fined for crashes that the AI causes? It's bad enough that I have to pay for repairs (at fault party should pay).

Only crashes I'm involved in are when I'm turning right and oncoming traffic makes a left plowing straight into me or when a car blows a stop sign and I can't stop in time.

Fines aren't breaking me with the cash I'm bringing in but the injustice is starting to get to me...

Yup it's a problem for everyone. I usually hit someone because they slow in a 70 zone to 35 for no reason, or when im turning they dont bother to stop and slam into my side.

I agree with this one completely. It's not very realistic in that fashion as usually, in most (but not all) states in the US, if you are determined to be at fault for causing an accident, then you are the one who ends up paying the fine, not any of the other folks involved, unless they contributed to the accident in some way, then they have to pay as well.

The game appears to have simplified algorithm for determining party at fault. If you hit other vehicle, you will be paying penalty regardless who is at fault according to traffic rules. When both cars are moving, it might be hard to tell which vehicle hit another more

In any case, I drive nearly accident free for thousands of miles. The trick is in following speed limits, properly using turn signals when changing lanes and turning, and taking turns slowly watching for cross traffic.

I do all of those things. Like I said, the only crashes I have are when an AI vehicle stops following the traffic laws and causes the collision.

Which is fine. Drivers do unpredictable things sometimes in RL. I just don't think the player should be fined unless they cause the collision.

That's just it, it always seems that the truck is the one who gets fined, even when it's blatantly obvious that the truck was NOT the one at fault... :steamsad:
Seems to me that this 'algorithm' is somewhat flawed... lol

Virtual traffic has no money to pay fines. Also, at least in my game if there is a crash involving me (VERY RARE, because I don't drive like a madman) it's usually my fault.

Oh yeah, I've been at fault in a few crashes, I'm not gonna sit here and even TRY to sell that line... lol
And like others here, I usually stick to the speed limits and the rules of the road.
What grates me is when I have done everything right and some AI vehicle comes out of nowhere and rams me, and I'm the one who pays the fine.

Sure, I've got tons of money in this game, so the fine is usually slightly more than 'pocket change' in comparison to my 'bank account', but it's still kinda annoying to have to, basically, pay for something that I didn't do.
To me, this is far worse than not having the ability to drive 100+ mph where ever I go... lol

If AI crashes into you you miss a trafic rule or you dont drive defensive.:steamsalty:

I get it, but I think you missed the part where they defined what the word 'accident' means... :steamsalty:

Well, at least they accurately portrayed the average California driver...can't speak for the other states, though.

Believe me, the California drivers could actually be in any state.
They drive like idiots here in West Virginia too... lol

Drive as defensive as you can, they'll still get you. Its only a matter of time.

This guy peeled out of the gas station and T-boned me as I was driving by. The screenshot was taken just as he reversed after contact. I still got the fine

Yeah, here in New York they try to blend in by placing NY licence plates on their vehicles

This is a perfect example of what I was referring to, thanks for posting this...

I doubt the ai will ever be perfect and perhaps it can be improved as they have improved it in the past. Most times I don't have problems with the ai and only on occasions do I have an ai side swipe me or overtake me and then slow down so fast that I cannot stop. I do drive defensively and always have and most times I do not exceed 50MPH and I always try to obey road rules. Yes there are issues with ai but without knowing how players drive themselves it is difficult to know if it is such a big issue as some players make it out to be. Most people see themselves as good drivers but in reality some are not and there are some who could not drive a nail into a block of wood. This goes for real life as well.

There isn't much I can do about the other drivers or ai behaviour but I always try to change my behaviour both in the game and also in real life. I am not saying I am a good driver as I have always believed, since I was young and lost control of a car which I was finally safely able to stop without injuring anyone who was in my car or any other people on the road, that underestimating my abiility was far better than overestimating my ability. I just try to be the best driver I can be both playing games and in real life.

I agree when an accident occurs which is not the players fault it is unfair the player gets fined and has to bear the cost of the damage to the cargo but programming a driver and ai fault system into the game I imagine would be extremely difficult.
