Safe Mod Site?
Probably the third discussion on this topic, but does anyone know if the modsats site is safe?

But using an Adblock and Scriptblock are a good idea to keep your computer safe.
Just to kind of clarify what Cadillac ATS said, check the SCS forums[forum.scssoft.com] first and make sure that the mod that you want isn't already posted there.
That is just about the 'safest' place to get your mods from, other than the workshop on Steam...

As long as you have adblocker on and make sure that what you are clicking is indeed the actual download link, yeah it's safe...

As with all mod sites - you have to be aware of (and be able to recognize) what the "right" download link is.

How to tell: If it opens a series of links, it's the wrong one.

The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.

Not a problem, I knew what you meant, but some people might not have got it.
We do occasionally see some 'dense' folks around here from time to time... lol

Just as an FYI; checking the SCS forum isn't really necessary and it can't be considered "safe" compared to any other site.

Although it is the official forum, SCS do not moderate any mods added to the forums, they will only remove a mod link if there are enough complaints for whatever reason. So it's really no safer than anywhere else.

As far as modders and SCS forums go, a lot of good modders no longer post mods there because they got fed up of people on the forums taking their mods and uploading to other mod sites without permission.

While to some of you that might not seem like a big deal, these people who repost other people's mods, usually do so on a pay-per-click host like sharemods. So they are essentially making money off of someone else's work.

@Moh - While most of what you said is true, I should point out that most forums have active filters in place to prevent malicious files from being uploaded. This doesn't affect files uploaded to other sites and then linked on the message boards, unless as you put it, users complain about it, then the moderators/admins only recourse is to block the link.
In a way, it is 'safer' than just clicking a random link and hoping for the best.

It's really a shame that people will 'steal' another's work only to make money off it, it hurts the mod authors and in turn, us, the community, as it makes it difficult, if not impossible to get quality mods when greedy people do things like this.

SCS does not allow use of the attachment system for mods. It may only be used for bug reports. The moderators do not check links posted to see if they are malicious.

There's been a big topic on there for awhile about certain download sites and whether they should be allowed, the mods decision is basically "click at your own risk".

I was not aware of this, I've been moderator on a couple of sites in the past that did allow uploads of mods, though this is entirely dependant on who's running the forums and how much space they can afford to allocate to such things.
Though the moderators/admins do not actively check every link, I'm pretty sure that if they get enough 'bad press' about a link, they do block it, otherwise, you are right, you click at your own risk... lol
