Ya i like running some of the older engines, right now im using a DD Series 60, has good rumble and a great Jake. Before that i had a 3406 cat, n14 cummins and 444.
Yep, those engines drove Cummins & Detroit Engineer folks crazy.
270 Cat, Cummins 210, 220. then the 335, Detroit Screemin Jimmy 318 V-6 2 stroke.
1693 T or T.A. Cummins 335, 350, small cam then the large cam 400, KT 450, Detroit V-12
The Cat engines were painted white for trucks not yellow like the 3406 models.
Add a 5 & 4 or a 6 & 4 boxs perfect set up. 359 Pete with a 172 inch hood 245 wheel base.
Same sound file could be used for the 270 T.A. 1693 T or T.A. and the 3408 Cat engines. All three had postive fuel pressure pumps the fuel was metered at the pump. They used direct injection from the fule pump. Used Spray nozels in the heads in stead of Injectors like the Cummins and Detroit engines. Why they rattle. Cat engine sound like they are going to break untill they reach about 1100 R.P.M. then they smothe up. Best operating R.P.M. 1750 to 1800 shift at 1900...With a 5&4 boxs have a 250 R.P.M. split between the gears. 4:63 rears 5th & 4th over 63 M.P.H.
Off Topic sorry...
It was an issue with brakes getting burned up if you did not have experience running mountains. In the Mile-High if you did not have a minimum of 2 years experience running to the west coast most companies would not consider you for a driving job. I.R.L.. Insurance companies had restrictions on driver qualifications as well un less the company was willing to pay the extra premimum. They started adding emission to the 1693 T & T.A. in 1974 because of California emissions law. But it was simple to bi pass the emissions consisted of a air actuator mounted on the left side of the engine. Put a rivot in the air line closed the actuator. In spectors never checked the air line. LMAO. In Colorado on state roads GVW 96,000. 36,000 per tandem 20,000 steer. Interstate GVW 73,280... On a good paying load the authoruty was in the ink pen. What weight laws are you refering to. LOL...14 Western States.
18 miles of 7 percent grade a jake or retarder. Was a common law requirement between companies, owner operators and independents out of Mile High (Denver, CO.).
On Topic.
Viper, Kretchum and odd fellows develop very good mods. Example Viper 389 Pete. If some one knows them maybe they could make the initial contact.
If they would agree to build the Cat Engines listed above for the SCS 389 and KW 900 of course the Viper 389. Like to see a 5 & 4 and a 6 & 4 optonal transmissions for the cat engine. Restrict to Other transmissions... 10 speed, 12513 and twin counter shaft boxs 5 & 4 or 6 & 4 had twin countershafts could with stand the torque. Rest of the transmissions were not developed back then. First was the Allison Automatic died to lack on interest. If I remember correctly been a long time.
Think the place to start would be to ask Viper, Kretchum or odd fellow. If they would make a firm commitment. It would be very generous on there part for the community.
Australia is amazing country like to visit, wish list...
Yes that is correct. Might be able to record a 1693. T.A.. Need a yes for the MOD not a maybe. . Tractor been parked since 2005. Last time it was started 2011 maybe 2012? 1693 T.A. Engine has a air starter not electric motor. 74 359 Pete.
Be lost the way new tractors and engines are designed air shift transmissions.
Hell ya im going to give it a try later
