What the logic behind the Weight Station Bypass Service?
Just out of curiosity: When the game lets you bypass the Weight Station, is it just a matter of chance, or is there some kind of internal logic being used when it makes that decision? Anybody know? Thanks.

It is close, for sure. In fact, unless SCS added many new features, I don't think it could get any closer.
They would have to start enforcing weight limits, which I kinda miss from the old 18 WOS days. Had to plan ahead & dodge the scales.

That was fun planning your route to keep away from the weigh stations.
I'm fairly certain there's a degree of randomness. I was driving along one road in Washington. I ended up getting pulled in to a weigh station. I ended up reloading an auto save for a reason I can't quite remember, and passed by the same weigh station (on the same delivery) and didn't get pulled in.

There are some weigh stations it's almost a guarantee that I get pulled in, on others it's often hit or miss. Annoyingly there's that bit of road between Las Vegas and that Arizona city past the Hoover Dam that I can never drive on because I always get pulled in there...

I've been asked to pull into a weigh station three times in the same state. I've learned to deal with it, and use that "down time" to manage my drivers. But most of the time, I get a green light.

The one thing I HATE about weigh stations is this: I'm cruising down the road for an hour or two. Completely at peace and lost in thought, when - all of a sudden - "DING! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!" This game is going to give me a heart attack with all the weigh station jump scares. I now keep the "Route Advisor" open so I can see when a weigh station is coming up and I can brace myself for the inevitable BEEP BEEP BEEP.

Darn your American security measures!
It kinda reminds me of that Patrick Swayze and Meatloaf movie Black Dog.
Swayze at one point had to deal with a weight station, while commenting "In America, only 1 in 3 weight stations are open at time. So, we've got a decent shot at being okay."

(The odds failed him...)

A good movie, though.

The part I hate about them is the freakishly slow speed limit when exiting them.

Excuse me, weight station, would it be alright if I merge back into the freeway traffic going 60MPH, while actually moving at something faster than 15MPH?!
Its just random.

It is really screwing me over. I am trying to get the "How Heavy Am I?!" achievement and everytime I get a transformer run I get the bypass green light at the scale.
If you check the achievement it says you can use a scale or weigh station. Try using the scales at one of the larger rest stops.
Great suggestion... don't know why I didn't think of that?? That worked, and I also verified the often debated question "does fuel add weight??" It does. First weight was 169,297 lbs., Added 112 gallons, pulled right back on the same scale with a weight of 170,059 lbs. Fuel definitely adds weight.
In real world, there is a plate on the right lane about a mile out that weighs the truck in motion, not heavy, green light- hammer down, border line over weight, they will red light you. Hasmat loads are supposed to go in, even with a green light. That was in the pre-pass owners pamphlet. We heard it costs about a $1.00 every time its use. No money in account, red light. The company logic, is that it was worth the costs vs the trucks waiting in line. Some coops like Banning Ca. could have long lines like in the middle of the night, when there is a lot of truck traffic. For the driver one of the best things they ever came out with.
Hi All I know this is a old post but I need to something. How do you know when to stop at weigh station if you do not have the route advisor open. All I hear is beeps. Is there anyway to get it to display bypass or stop instead of opening route advisor everytime. Thank you all in advance.
There should be a rectangular blue device somewhere on the windshield. If you look closely, it either has a green light depending on whether you are cleared to bypass or have to pull in.

[...]All I hear is beeps. Is there anyway to get it [...]

Short beeps with short intervals = pull-in. Long beeps with long intervals = bypass.
Former trucker here. In-game, I've gotten the red light running bobtail (no trailer) with zero damage and driving under the speed limit. I've gotten the green light approaching at 95 mph with 18% damage to truck, 11% damage to trailer. So obviously, the PrePass (what it's called IRL) in ATS is just by chance.

Yes, I actually WAS a truck driver IRL, and NO, I would never have rolled like that IRL but I figure, it's a game, what the hell? I let it all hang out once in awhile if I have an urgent delivery (aka as a 'hot load', something dispatchers say to justify thinking you can drive 800 miles in 10 hours - when any real trucker knows 58-62 mph average legally is a challenge on your best day). And BOY, do I have stories -- all true.

As for RL, well, Hylton Trucking is right as to how the system works. There is a transponder on a pole-suspended arm that communicates with that little blue puck on your windshield, and LEOs in the scale house get your truck and carrier info, and decide to let you roll or pull you in based on that and your weigh-in-motion weight through sensors on the highway.

Though as to state entry stations always being open, that is probably true of certain states, but not necessarily all. I guess it just depends on the state. I drove 18 months for a carrier out of the Quad CIties area (borders of IA / IL near the river), and in that time of running back and forth between IA / IN / IL / WI / MN / MO, I saw two stations, one on I-74 in Carlock, IL, I seem to remember the other was on I-94 just west of Black RIver Falls WI, though it's been awhile and I'm not sure exactly where.

Carlock was rarely open and never gave me a red light when it was. The one I-94, wasn't open nearly as often as I might expect it and never gave me a red light either. So I think IRL too, it is sort of chance. Some stations do just stay open and make everyone come in. And then you have the on-demand areas where there is no actual building, it's just a state trooper or DOT cop with portables setting up shop for the day. There is one like this on US-29 between Lynchburg and Lovingston in VA, I have seen another on I-380 somewhere in PA.

Imagine having to do this 4-6 times a day, and comply, or get in deep trouble, or fired. Just to get your paycheck. I did. And I have seen many prime examples of why these measures are in place. You have no idea what kind of idiots are out there on the highway. I've seen people driving Peterbilts that I wouldn't trust with a go-kart.

Gee, that looks familiar. LOL. Thanks for the props.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm about to pull the trigger on a wheel / shifter / pedal setup, but I'm not sure I'll like the gear drive on Logitechs, and I can't decide between the TM T150 RS, T300 RS, and TMX Pro. Been playing BeamNG.drive since early 2019 and ATS for about a year now with keyboard control, and someone just clued me in the other day as to why I had issues with the air system bottoming out. Been thinking about doing some videos, maybe even some tutorials and pointers for those new to this game and or trucks / trucking. Guess it's time to get serious about my equipment. Any suggestions, message me.

i don't think it is a keyboard issue, i use a wheel and the brakes get drained fast
wheel gives much more precise control, so less moving back and forth and less braking
but you can disable air brake simulation in options
would be great to read/watch your tutorials!
