GPS Modes
real GPS has choice of quickest route or main roads only.
we need this. I am often routed thru small towns and small roads off the highway an sucks when u have heavy loads. we need this, stick to the highways

AyMazingATS May 22, 2018 @ 4:47am
Look under Gameplay settings. You will see a dropdown box for the gps. I have mine set to "best."

Also, you can just adjust your route on the GPS yourself. (*edit: in the map screen, i mean)

mine is on best think thats default.
other choices are small roads, and shortest routes. thats redundant shortest route would include 'small' roads as they call them. after all theyre in Czech right?.
should be main roads only, or shortest route, thats assumed it would include 'small' roads or non-highway/freeway roads. ie: two lanes, and such.
I guess ill have to manage route myself, they need to fix that, maybe they dont have GPS in Czech Rep.

It's not redundant. "small roads" tries to avoid major roadways whenever possible. "shortest route" just gives the least total travel distance regardless of road type. "small roads" will usually give a much longer travel distance due to the avoidance of major roadways.

small roads is same as best route, its saying all roads, even small roads, are on the route.
doesnt need to be both. thats both best route and small roads= best. you know its going to route u on other than main roads. thats what my real life GPS has. theres no 'small' roads, its quickest route, or Main roads.
theres no 'small' roads choice.
and 'best' is also the wrong term.
perhaps something is lost in the translation to english for them.
on 'Murican GPS units its 'quickest' or 'Main roads' only. of course the quickest would include side roads or any road which is what I think they mean by 'small' roads.

so best is meant as quickest here. then there should be no small roads cos thats part of best, ie:quickest.
small roads eliminated.
best route kept. that includes small or side roads.
add a main road/highways only option. done.
why would any1 use small roads option? what were they thinking?

If you could select "No small roads" then it would not be quickest. There are places where you must take a small road to go from one highway to another to make a shorter, quicker route.

And my friends and I like to use the "Small roads" option to stay off the highways and have a nice scenic drive. It's more suited for use while delivering External Contracts where you have many real-life hours to complete the journey as opposed to the game-time deadlines on Freight Market jobs.

No. You just don't understand.

"best" is quickest, so you got that much right. It prefers main roads because the speed limit is higher, but does not try to avoid small roads, especially if a small road is the direct route.
"shortest" is exactly what it says. You would pick this one to use less fuel. It may take more time than "best" because the speed limit is lower. "shortest" has no restriction on what kind of roads it uses.
"small roads" is what we in America call the "scenic route". The small roads tend to be a more interesting environment to drive through (better scenery). This may be just more interesting things to look at or a more interesting road to drive on, like a mountain road. Main reason a lot of people play this game is to look at the scenery! So it avoids the main roads as much as possible.

right best is quickest and includes side roads we know this.
keep small roads if ya want but we need an option for main roads only.
perfect example is going east from oakdale, oakland to N New Mexicoit gets u off around los angeles to cut over to catch a parallel more north road (58-40) , but I just went straight thru on the 10 to Phoenix and turned north from there. it came out the same and only a few more miles because I saved the time I would have lost on small narrow city side roads being cut over to a parallel highway a little more north.
theres another one it does that around oxnard, and i just ignor gps an go straight, it recalculates, or I can pause and go to map and adjust route, but Id like, we need a setting for that, ie: stick to main roads Only.
Ornery May 22, 2018 @ 10:12am
Managing the route yourself is the best way to do it, in game and in real life.
Ribalder May 22, 2018 @ 10:48am
check this out.
going down the 10 need to take 5 north. just need to go like a mile further and exit merge to 5, BUT dumb game GPS has me get off here-
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1392261369
so I got off, not seeing that far ahead, and said..wait a dam minute, look at map, and drag route straight as it should be. why it routes me thru that lil town at a snails pace with traffic? stooopid. thats not 'best' or 'quickest', just stoopid. does it even save distance? cos it costs time. alot of it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1392261110
the game GPS thinks this get off stop, turn, go slow, cut that little bit of the corner off route is better??, thats a flawed thinking GPS man.

area of concern:

The GPS doesn't have information about speed limits on the roads. It just knows that going through there is shorter than going around. You, the intelligent person, have realised that going around is faster even though it's longer. No one says you must blindly obey the GPS. I always check the route before setting off to be sure the GPS isn't doing things like this.
Ribalder May 22, 2018 @ 11:05am
noone said anything about speed limits. ?. it calculates speed and time.
this is enormous waste of time based on distance an speed though, its faulty programmed gps ai. look-

7:10 to 7:43 this route, at any speed like 50-70 going straight for just a few seconds more and merging onto 5 North should be the gps's decision. Not this gps. its stoo-oopid.
how would you scour every mile of a 1400 mile trip for errors an correct them like this?. lol. that would take more time than actually driving it dude-

the other stupid off on is Kingman Az. noticed that one?
