There is a demo on the store page. Try it and see if you like it.

I believe the demo is using the old map scale. It's better since they rescaled the map.

But if you don't like ETS2, you're probably not going to like ATS. They are essentially the same game.

You are probably correct but it is better than trying to convince someone who has already said they are not keen on ETS2. :)

For me ETS 2 is better. ATS just changes places and improves graphics a bit. Nothing special about it.

for me i enjoy both ats and ets2. that being said ets2 has farm more content from trucks, truck options, trailers, map size and promo events. you can buy everthing that ats has to offer and you will get burned out much quicker than ets2

Euro Truck Simulator is a 2008 game, its follower ETS2 is a 2012 game. American Truck Simulator is a 2016 game. If you want to have a truck simulator game, ATS is the newest of any existing ones, has the best quality graphics and has the most possibility to have future DLC packs. Its game engine is a modified version of earlier game and it is still getting patches to improve realistic driving. I can feel the changes on driving physics between 2016 and 2018 versions. Though the difference is not massive, i can tell that It is not just going from X to Y and releasing trailers. *Expect no shooting though*. Buy the software and see how its future unfolds. There are tons of very nice American Trucks that are working for current version and old mods gets updated as if they are from real game developers. American West is here coupled with American Trucks growling through various canyons. Don't like base game trailers? there are several excellent modded trailers -even older ones- in workshop or in external sites. Didn't like the textures or mountains, roads or vegetation? there are great mods for them too. Didn't like lightening? there are mods for them too. Want more engines and with better sounds? they are existing here and free to use from Modding community. Did not like all those free truck models from community? there are paid mods in external sites too.

The only reason why you should not buy this game can be your own non-existing overture towards trucks themselves. If you do not have any affinity for trucks, stay clear of Truck Simulator games in general.

For the record .. ETS2 and a bunch of the DLCs are currently heavily discounted (some things up to 75% off). No sure how long it will last .. but I just bought it for an insane price ($4.99) ..

I own both, and my opinion is as follows:

I like to play ETS2 when I would like to have a bit more of a challange, see differen't locations, and to explore Europe (well... duh). I play ATS when I feel like focusing more on the relaxing drive through the four available states... being born and rasied in California yet living in Poland, it is refreshing to see "home" again.

A very very specific difference I always notice when going from ATS to ETS2 is the way ETS2 has it's interchanges and on/off ramps... For some reason I dislike driving on the freeway to eventually have to make a ~40kph turn.

ETS2 by a country mile for me. The expansions are a must for both games.

But yes i also play both, i kinda dislike the heavy speed restrictions we have in scandinavia, america's traffic rules are more loose and the roads are generally more relaxing to drive on if i have to be honest.

But ETS2 for the trucks alone and more.

Maybe, it all depends on your region really. I live in Florida and I prefer ETS 2 just because there is more variety.

Tthanks for all of your comments....

ATS and ETS2 are essentially the same game. ETS2 has more map coverage but ATS has more varied and difficult parking challenges in my opinion. I wish they would update the delivery parking challenges in ETS2. Really I wish they would keep adding new roads and new delivery challenges in both sims.

ATS is better more relaxing to drive more parking challenges and grew up Arizona feels like home where ETS2 feels exotic

That very true fact is an overlooked MISTAKE of SCS. I do not blame SCS on slow development or only 4 licensed trucks. Thats not the real reason why several gamers just stick to ETS2 and underrate ATS. American Truck Simulator should have had another type of Game UI, menus....etc. compared to ETS2. Within my 180+ friends inside Steam, there have been several friends of mine who purchased ATS last week due to the massive sale. However, when i last checked their library, i saw that they wanted a refund for this game and returned it. As i have expected, most of them -if not all- had ETS2 in their library with at least 50+ hours. I did not ask them what was the reason of returning it. I know the reason.

Some of gamers who love ATS think that Game UI and menus are not important at all and it is very good and nice to have it same as ETS2. Because they believe that same styles for both games will create less problems and will fasten up progress of both games. Although this may be 100% correct, majority of gamers think that ,since they(ATS&ETS2) are sold as seperate games, they think and wish to REALLY FEEL that they really purchased a new game by owning American Truck Simulator. This type of marketing -same UI for different named and sold games- is not a good choice in the long run. And we know ATS is a game with a LONG development time and most of its DLC packs will arrive in the long run. I made a long review of ATS game a while ago as an "absolute recommendation" and sad to know the reason why majority of gamers do not want to buy ATS if they already own and got used to play ETS2. I know there are several people owning both of them, but i check the stats of both games time to time and see the massive difference on the numbers of active players of each game.

SCS should erase the "Americas Expansion Pack for ETS2" feel from American Truck Simulator if they want to increase its popularity. If they are happy with its community base and its current sales, then keep its ETS2 look.

By the way, i did not buy ETS2 for the very same reason. Instead, i bought ETS1 and Scania Truck Simulator this year next to my existing American Truck Simulator.
