USB Switch and G27
Hi all, this is kind of random but lately I’ve discovered my G27 won’t let my PC go to sleep, so I’ve had to unplug the USB cable every time I’m finished playing. Now I’ve investigated some USB hubs with switches, and most all that I’ve found are either USB 3.0 (which iirc conflicts with the G27) or are poorly made. I currently use a standard USB 2.0 powered hub, so I would prefer something with an external power supply just to be safe, as well as USB 2.0 ports for compatibility. I’ve also found a small USB extension with a power switch on it, but apparently doesn’t work with data transfer, only power. My question is: does anyone have a recommendation for a solid, powered USB 2.0 hub (preferably with 5 to 7 ports) with switches or at least some kind of individual switched adapter or cable (if one exists) that would be good to use with my wheel?

P.S. I used to just turn off the G27 via device manager but I think a Windows 10 update broke that :/

I've had several powered USB hubs over the years and I've never seen one with a power switch on it. If I wanted to power it off for any reason, I had to pull the power plug out of the back of it. The drawback to this is that it kills the power to anything plugged into the hub, meaning that if you use yours like I do, to charge phones, tablets or other devices, that kills them charging as well...
I know you really don't want to have to do it this way, but you may have to stick with unplugging your controller when not in use...

Correction: I actually found something that might work for you:

Also keep in mind you could have issues using the wheel with a shared USB hub.

I've looked at a lot of the ones on Amazon, but like I said the ones I was most interested in either had a decent amount of quality complaints or just didn't have enough reviews to make a solid decision. I'm not looking for one that powers the whole hub on and off, just one with one switch for each port.

I haven't had issues using it with my current hub, if that's what you mean. If you meant a non-powered hub (i.e. power via computer's USB port) then yeah that's why I'm avoiding those types.

I have a T500 RS and I have it connected directly to my computer using a USB2 extension and it is plugged into a power board with switches and with surge protection. It is permanently attached to my desk and when I am not using it, I unplug it from the USB2 extension and switch the power off on the power board. Simple and easy and I have never had any problems whatsoever.

When I am not using my wheel I can use the USB2 extension for my Xbox one controller or my F710 controller if I am playing other games which use a controller rather than a wheel.

Your wheel should be plugged directly into your computer using a USB2 port and not a USB3 port or a shared USB-hub. This advice I learned from Logitech support when I had problems with my G29 wheel.

This sounds weird, my wheel doesn't keep my computer on and I'm not sure why USB 3.0 would conflict. I use USB 3.0 as it the only USB ports on the front of my case. USB 3.0 supports USB 2.0 as the connectors are in the same place to make contact and the extra connectors / pins that are hard to see unless looking right into a USB 3.0 port / cable shouldn't be able to make contact with a USB 2.0 device, only with a USB 3.0 device. So the port shouldn't have any negative effects. I have found that Logitech support tends to only know general stuff and often found them grasping at straws when trying to do just basic support.

Since the new interface has been carefully planned from the start to peacefully co-exist with its predecessor, the connector itself remains mostly the same with the four USB 2.0 contacts in the exact same location as before. Extra pins for the new lanes dedicated to transmit and receive SuperSpeed data are located on the back and only come into contact when mated with a proper USB 3.0 port.

You can learn more about USB 3.0 here:

Like I said, my G27 works perfectly with the hub I'm currently using (it is externally powered). Also I tried using a USB 3 port once (after I got a new mobo, old one didn't have any) and my computer didn't correctly identify it, so haven't messed with USB 3 since. Perhaps Logitech support assumed it wasn't a powered hub.

Apparently it's a known Windows 10 issue with some game controllers. I don't recall always having had the problem, only sometimes like right now.

Many people have reported having problems when connecting to USB3 ports and have changed to USB2 ports and had no problems. This and the advice from Logitech support is the reason why I always give advice to plug into a USB2 port.

Maybe disabling the allow USB device to wake the computer will fix it ? I know it's windows 7 but should be the same for windows 10.

Tried that, G27’s option is grayed out in device manager.

This is what I need, but this one specifically seems to have poor reviews (also only 5), and looks to be externally powered but doesn’t have the adapter in the box…

Someone else has this issue too!! My G25 is preventing Windows 10 from turning off my displays. Never had this issue prior to the Fall Creators Update, which I didn't install until January this year...

Even with the April 2018 update (.1803) this hasn't been resolved on my end. Still looking/waiting for a software solution. :\
