Sleeping too long in the game.
So sometimes in ATS (same problem in ETS2) I will be on a delivery and there is say 4 hours left on the route advisor. But my character gets sleepy and starts to go through the yawning and eyes closing phase. If I stop and sleep I could miss the window of the delivery and not make it on time.

Does anyone know if there is a mod out there that allows the player to sleep for a set amount of time, for example pull off and choose to sleep for an hour just to be awake enough to finish the delivery.

ALSO, is there a mod (same or different) that allows us to sleep in more locations? I think a mod that you could activate with a hotkey to allow the player to be able to sleep basically wherever. I know that here in the states I see a lot of truckers who pull off the sides of the on/off ramps of rest stops and sleep there (rather directly inside the rest stop).

You can edit economy_data.sii ( a text file in the game files) to alter your total sleeping time AND total driving time to your liking but this is done as a mod, which means during the game it cannot be edited. You need to do it before you start the game.
or
You can turn off fatigue simulation in Game Options.

IThe "trigger" for sleeping actually exists in the map data. This is to say that you must roll your truck over a particular spot to instigate sleep. The same same for re-fuelling, paying tolls, etc.
There has been a lot of talk over the years in ETS2 discussions about changing that system so that the player can "press a button" and sleep wherever the truck is parked.
Which, of course, sparked the opposing side talking about simulation and such and US drivers not being able to "sleep anywhere they like".
To which others said "well in real life you can't turn off police fines either.
And we all laughed and had some cake.

I speak for myself only as I plan my trip based on driving time to a destination and calculate sleep time on long hauls before I take a job. I find that lower paying jobs usually have the longer delivery deadline. So I choose my jobs based on time not money.

You can also turn off (remove check mark) for the fatigue factor in game settings. Then you do not need to sleep at all - ever. IMHO this removes the challenge to the game. You also can eliminate Traffic Sitations by removing a checkmark. Again IMHO doing so removes the challenge of the game. Point being play the game your way.

I think that you may be misinterpretting the ETA on the route advisor as the time that you are supposed to be there to complete the contract.
The ETA is only showing you how long it will take you to get there, nothing more.
If you want to know what date and time you need to make your delivery by, you need to hit the F6 key. All of that info is in there, including when you will have to take your next rest break.
I use that info to plan when I will sleep, refuel, etc.
I used to be late for deliveries from time to time until I discovered F6, now I'm never late... lol

fyi the sleeping issues are based on US federal laws. So it's not just a matter of being sleepy and taking a nap, legally a truck driver MUST rest for 10 hours continuously after driving a maximum of 11 hours in a day.

^^ This
This is a simulator afterall (though opinions tend to vary on this fact) so it makes sense that it would include atleast some of the regulations that American truckers would have to abide by...

I definitely understand where and how to use that to plan ahead. Sometimes though I fail to pay attention and it causes me to end up tired before the end. So say that my ETA remaining is 4 hours like to op states, and I end up tired at that 4 hour remaining mark. However let's say it's 1 am and the delivery needs to be there by 7 am. If I stop and rest so that I'm not falling asleep, then it's now 11am and I still have 4 hours remaining according to trip advisor.
Was trying to see if there was a way I could just rest for a few hours.

Like Shadeball states though with US federal laws, I never took this into consideration. With this being said, it is a simulator, and I do like realism and this does make it real. Thus, I guess I just have to keep an eye out for how much more I can drive before I have to sleep.

See I never understood exactly how or where the trigger was for sleeping. I understand I can just turn off fatigue simulation but I do like having to sleep and plan around for sleeping. If it comes down to it then I can just continue my current method of planning for how much time I have until I need to sleep.

Though in actuality when driving a real big rig drivers can technically "sleep anywhere" though it's not always legal for them to do that. It would just be another one of those things where the player is responsible for following the law, much like how you can speed in game, or drive in oncoming traffic, or smash cars. Just because it's "illegal" doesn't mean the game restrics players from doing it entirely.

Exactly. Part of the fun of the game is to see how closely to real life you can 'play'.
I do the same thing ie. plan and make sure I've rested before each job, etc.
You will also notice that you can sleep three times in a row and then the message changes from "press <key> to rest" to "This is a resting place but you are not tired"
Does that mean that the first two times you aren't completely rested?

These and other questions may be answered in the next exciting installment of Trucker's Life.

I did notice that about sleeping three times in a row. I don't think it's realistic however sometimes I like it because if there are no deliveries that I want at that time I would just sleep and they would refresh. Sometimes I will do that during nighttime, too, since I hate driving at night in the game since it's so dark.

thats why you plan you make sure u already got the rest before the job

turn it off in game settings, make your delivery, go to rest area, turn it back on in game settings, than rest

Too much work, I'm not that worried about it.

I'd rather keep it off.

Does anything happen other than getting a fine? My "bed" was in the red, I was "fading," but all that happened before I rested was getting a fine for ignoring sleep. Do you actually fall asleep at the wheel at some point?
