Guide how to increase scaling beyond 400% (for strong gpu)
Edit: i'm sry for this thread, picture quality doesn't seem to improve (any longer?) when going extra high with scaling, it becomes edgy (no AA). But even with 400% it looks fantastic if you turn everything AA to ON in Nvidia control panel and override in-game settings (which also has to be set to max) to get very good picture quality. I wonder what the developers say about going beyond 400% scaling, will they enable higher scaling in coming versions?

(Doesn't work) If you want extra high scaling which i think looks significantly better you can add to config.cfg (C:/user/username/documents/ats) these lines (the scale values below may not be exact for your particular game version),

for 500% (gtx 1060 etc):
uset r_scale_y "2.237"
uset r_scale_x "2.237"

600%:
uset r_scale_y "2.45"
uset r_scale_x "2.45"

(This works; yes for Dx9, no for Dx11?) You also need to increase the Anti-aliasing settings beyond that of in-game to get smooth visuals and no misaligned edges (even with 400% this makes the game look fantastic):

go to Nvidia control panel (or corresponding), Manage 3D settings, Program Settings tab, ATS; select everything max and override application (Anisotropic filtering, FXAA, Gamma correct, AA 8x, AA-transp 8x, MFAA, Texture filtering for ansisotr, negative lod, quality, trilinear). All edges with 400% scaling become smooth.

https://i.imgur.com/pegh1Fd.jpg 600% (view fullscreen, otherwise blurry, sry i forgot to turn on AA in Nvidia control panel)
https://i.imgur.com/fp3lUx5.jpg 600%
(using 1080p 43 inch tv as monitor so it's easy to see details)

Placebo?

I super sample some older games and tried it on this game but my computer isn't up for the task but the visual improvement is not placebo.

I didn't know this could be done in the config file thanks for the info.

:stop: If you have an old computer like me this will punch your FPS right in the face.
You have been warned.

How do you super sample older games, are you using a steam software called Lossless Scaling?

Ye, even with gtx 1060 6gb in order to have 60 fps i have to use no more than 500% scaling, it still stutters in cities and becomes a little hot but it's worth it for the visual improvement.

People who achieve stable 60fps with 600% scaling what GPU do you have?

I have a nvidia card there is a section on here that I followed to do it.

If you don't like clicking links just google how to supersample and you will find some guides.

Looks amazing at 600%, the only problem is when I press Esc to get to the main screen and do a save the game crashes to desktop.

My nVidia GTX770 got jittery at 600%. For some reason 500% didn't show up. When I went to compare differences in the config file, e.g. back to 400%, the Custom 600% option disappeared! But it was beautiful while it was working. I'll keep at it once I'm done with the 1.35 testing. Thanks for sharing your info. Also, I know I'll have to eventually upgrade my graphics card... whenever I get around to rollin' my loose change in various jars. :steamhappy:

It happened to me too, i deleted my profiles and config file and redid it, so now i got back the 600% (and 500%). Or you could just create a new profile.

Maybe you have an incompatible mod (their corruption is also saved in backup folders and maybe even on the servers, so you need to delete all profiles in-game and the ats folder in C:-docucments before reinstallation of the game.

Cool, i didn't know this, i thought you meant increasing DSR-factor to 4x (under the tab Manage 3D settings) in Nvidia control panel. What's the difference between them (is DSR the same thing quality-wise but it's only for 3D fullscreen while supersampling is for 2D as well)? Maybe your method of supersampling is better than editing the ats config file or the best is when they are in combination?

Edit: i got my answers here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/8ae8b6/dsr_vs_resolution_scale/

Supersampling is better than DSR (doesn't affect HUD/UI as much) but in-game scaling is even better (optimised algorithm).

OMG Tenderfoot - a GTX770? You would stutter just using 400% in any built up area. I'm i7 4core@4Ghz(soon to be 6core12logical@4.8 to 5Ghz when it arrives) a solid state hard drive, water cooling and a GTX1080ti 11GB and I won't use anything more than 400% because 500/600 stutters my Track IR 5 (only in built up areas) and I'd rather a smooth 150 to 180fps open road and 55 to 60fps in cities over eye candy. Although my eye candy is extreme even at 400%. I will try upping my scale again after I get my new CPU.

But TBH, scaling above 400% is pointless for a driving game, think about your eyes and the strain that results in pain, pain = no games at all.

And also, your tests are done in 1080p(1920x1080) and most gamers now use 27" monitors @ 2560x1440 or above(4K) - I use an ASUS Swift ROG edition 144Hz G-sync

Idk guess I got a really weird setup then.
Ryzen 5 2600X, 16g 3000MHz ram, RTX 2060 on a 49" 1080p tv. haha

I do think 600 maybe 500 would help with a big(ish) tv, real close to my face(not any closer than a normal sim setup really lol) so I can set my FOV wider, and sit as far back in the seat.

I shall try and get back to ya later, not saying I have the best rig or anything, I just know this card can handle 600% once the game's DX11 is more optimized. I wouldn't dare try anything above 200% in DX9 and 400% in beta DX11. Right now with the beta I get sustainable 60FPS at 400% DX11, and around 40-60% GPU usage, idk maybe 5-20% CPU, but I also record 60FPS with OBS.

edit to add:
At 2560*1440 it doesn't look any better.

Wow, so this is what it takes. Does the game look like it has insufficient anti-aliasing, with edges and stuff, if you increase AA in Nvidia control panel to max x16 will the game still be stable at 60fps and be worth the higher scaling?

You could try higher settings,

700%:
uset r_scale_y "2.646"
uset r_scale_x "2.646"

800% (looks very good):
uset r_scale_y "2.829"
uset r_scale_x "2.829"

The higher the numbers the worse it looks.
I think those higher scale numbers are probably only good on a 1920*1080 monitor.
At 2560*1440 400% seems to be the sweet spot.
