It's a pretty nice truck.
I personally prefer the modern looking ones. The visibility in way better in them, though it may still be even better if they had bigger windshields as is standard for European trucks. Peterbilt 579 and Kenworth T680 also have better dashboard. Volvo, unfortunately, has worse dashboard, but it all make it up with visibility, which is why it’s my favourite default truck in ATS.
So far in this thread... yes, you are :)
Your prefered one will be a mix of look, engine sound and dashboard/visibility.
I hate the T680 dashboard for one very simple reason - fuel gauge totally hidden by the wheel, and while the rest is pretty neat, thats the one gauge I want to always see. Scrolling through screen to have the numeric annoys me.
As for my own preference, I split the modern looking truck and the classic looking -
for modern - Volvo VNL, for the better customization, better engine sound, overall look and I dont mind the dashboard so much.
For classic - W900, I slightly like the look better, altough I believe the 389 has more customization choice. Mostly tough, I like the sound better and the dashboard is much much much better imo.
the 389 has a retrolighting issue when lights are off on its GPS for me too, and is way too dark.
If I really have to go W900 vs VNL for category fight, slight preference to W900. Classic mirror offer much better perspective when backing, altough for whatever other maneuver, obviously the long nose and the pipes on the side makes the Volvo the better choice for looking around.
Still, for some reason I maneuver the W900 more easily, and the look of a long nose is imo, just too awesome.

But talking about astetics, probably the kenworth w900 and kenworth t800 are my all time favs for the astetics and feeling.
Thats why you have options to setup your seat. I usually lower the seat enough so i can see half of the steering wheel and i like to have the left mirror completely visible if i can (but most of the times thats impossible). I dont use virtual mirrors or things like that since i like to have the more realistic experience i can. And after a while you get used to it and its far more pleasant than using virtual mirrors that feel too unrealistic.
But the problem you are describing its only present in some trucks, not all classic ones. The major issue is the sunshield that will block your sight specially when you reach a traffic light spot. Thats why reached a point you buy your own trucks and you customize em.
