In your Config file look for this line:

uset g_traffic "1.0" and change it to uset g_traffic "2.0"

You could add ai traffic mods if you use mods.

What Kitty says, which can be extended all the way to g_traffic "10", but beware of playing with those settings, they can cause unwanted traffic jams, even at g_traffic "3"
and, trains, trams and farm vehicles are also more.

There are also traffic density mods, like this one: https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=247734
(also available for ETS2)

Don't use more than g_traffic "2.0" otherwise you will have too much traffic ! !

you will regret it :-) but you can just play with the settings 'till you're satisfied of course.
The thing is, farm vehicles and trains, as i said will also get more, idk know about ats, but in ets2 some farm vehicles can't pass eachother going in opposite directions causing unsolvable jams, and you can get to a point where you're stuck behind a railroad crossing because there are too many trains passing, stuff like that.
roundabouts get clogged up.

unless you know how to teleport in the game (dev console) it's ill advised to change the density settings, so listen to Kitty.

The more traffic the more impact on the game performance especially in cities which is what you said you wanted.

Also maybe something to consider, if you change it, it changes on all profiles, where a traffic density mod will only make changes to the profile the mod is activated in.

If you have the developer console activated you can use the g_traffic code to increase traffic on the current profile you are playing rather than messing with the config file. It has the advantage of being able to try different settings until you find the one which best suits you but whenever you start the game you will need to enter the g_traffic code again as it will not remain active when you exit the game.

I've found that setting it to "2.0" is perfect for ATS. Just the right amount of traffic so that the roads don't look half deserted like they do using the Default "1.0 setting.

hmzz, are you sure about that?
I have that setting on all the time (via the console) currently usually at 4, it never changes unless i want to, and for example when i change it to 0 on my test profile and then later play with a normal profile, it's 0 on all profiles (because i always forget to change it after testing :-)

I wasn't absolutely sure about it but I remember using the warp code many years ago and that did not remain active. I do turn off the traffic sometimes when there is a traffic jam which won't move but then I turn it back on. However, when I posted the comment I knew someone would correct me if I was wrong and you have so thank you for the correction. :)

Was just wondering, could have been some other setting that you have on and i have off, or visa versa

Don't do like I did in ETS2 and I'm NEVER gonna do it again! g_traffic "10"
I thought: There are not a lot of traffic around ...
Suddenly a horde of cars, buses and trucks swarmed all over the place! A 200 km+ journey turned into traffic jams galore! :steambored: :steamfacepalm:
