What trailer upgrades should I buy?
I'm level 11. Massive loan debt.. I have 2 trucks , 1 trailer and 1 employee. Is there some good first Trailer upgrades that I should buy? I currently have $80,000

Dont buy owned trailers, period. Its a waste. Unless its a modded one with some fancy customizable parts and you like it. I used to buy owned trailers back in the days until i realized, its stupid. There is not a single advantaje about owning a trailer.

And if you ask about trailer upgrades, there is non. Thats one of the problems of vanilla trailers, unless we are talking about a turnpike, rocky mountain, doubles, etc.

wait your right.... I really didn't think of that.... what is the point of me buying any of those when my worker goes and find jobs just like me. I don't bring my own trailers with me. So why is this even a thing in the game?

Why does Schneider, Werner, JB Hunt, Swift, just about every American trucking company all have their own trailers? There is a place for them in the game.

You do make a little more money but that profit can be eaten up by repair costs.

Thats the thing. You dont. Because the trailers you buy on ownership are exactly the same you find in the freighter market, and the loads are exactly the same. So... again, the only reason to buy a trailer is, i dunno if you like that trailer very very very much and you want to use it every time you want (offers in freighter market are mostly random) without the need of find a proper offer, or because the deliveries are more rewarded. More than that, there is non.

Besides turnpike trailers there is no point to owning trailers unless you want a unique looking trailer. Even with the turnpike trailers your so limited on where you can go it's not worth it.

I wish SCS would change the way owned trailers are used in the game by allowing players to change their trailer when accepting a job so they can accept whatever jobs are available in the cities they are currently in instead of needing to return to an owned garage to be able to change trailers.

Certain trailers are extremely restrictive with the jobs they can accept. Logging trailers is a prime example of this and if SCS add the tankers they will also be restrictive because not all cities have jobs available for them.

The current way of needing to return to an owned garage to change trailers is ridiculous for a game and it makes owning different kinds of trailers a waste of time.

owning trailers adds another element and option to the game sure you can pull the other companys trailer and even use their trucks but you can also use your own also to add variety plus when you have your own trailer you have to back it in to get loaded not just hook up a trailer

Yea I wasn't very happy with how they decided to implement them. So I never use them. I feel like you should gain more money with your own than they do. Just spend your money on better trucks, mods, or on more AI drivers.

I love using my own trailer, absolutely nothing wrong with that.

@happyskunky, as for upgrades on trailer there is no performance / improvements that really can be done its all about the bling and making it look how you want. Paint to match you truck perhaps?

I find you have more destination availaible with an owned trailer, particularly vans. Reefer trailer has the most, but it pays slightly less (still good tough) than dry van on average. Much more expensive to buy tough.

Still, dry vans are your best choice for purely what pays best. make sure you wait till you can get the 2 axle 53' tough, at level 13 I think. They have some sweet runs I don't see with freight market. One line that pays great when it smiles upon you is portland, OR / artesia, nm. Chemso in portland ships potassium to chemso and bush farm there, and chemso in artesia ships nitrocellulose to portland. 100+ per mile both at level 25ish or so.

I also find AI drivrer bring a bit more money with owned vans, type doesnt seem to matter.

Log trailers and flatbeds - not the best paying jobs. still got a flatbed b-double because I love the look, and it locks you on the washington/oregon area, the former which I wanted to explore after it released. Not expensive to buy at least, and useful to target some acheivements.

As for trailers management, I wished they'd implement cheaper "drop yards" that would act like garage, minus the driver slot in towns where you could keep a certain trailer type, and drop your current trailer etc. That would give realism, and give a bit more flexibility to the system.

Sell one truck, sell the trailer, sack the employee, pay off your bank loan and enjoy the game.
I never used a single employee in both ATS and ETS 2, the company management side of the game is completely pointless imho.
The game is about driving and enjoying it and you dont need any employees for that, even without them you will soon have plenty of money for entire collection of trucks for your enjoyment.

@Finney

The quality of your screenshots is excellent. Kudos.

Honestly I wish for them the most to expand on the business side of this game it could be so much funner. I get bored just driving around all the time and have to take breaks for a few month's after 10-15 hours. It's fun when I drink, but other-wise I can go drive in RL lol.

It would be good if SCS upgraded the business management side of the game and this has been requested for a long time by many players. At the moment you buy a garage and it magically manages itself for free. Apart from upgrades to the garage and trucks and maintenance and repairs of trucks and trailers and fuel there are no other expenses. The money eventually piles up and in time there is no way of getting rid of money other than starting a new profile or using a cheat or an economy mod.

However, SCS do plan in the future to make WOT more for the hard core players who want to manage a trucking business and that would involve a more in depth business management. Pavel mentioned that in one of his interviews.
