Log Trucks
Since I live in real logging area I have to ask, Why don't you see empty log trucks with their trailers riding piggy back on the cab in ATS.

Log trucks very seldom make trips from city to city. They start at a logging camp and take a load of logs to a city, then with the trailer up they return to the logging camp for another load. They make as many trips as they can in a day to the same city. Before unloading the trailer is weighed and each log is graded and marked so the Log Sorter in the city can place them where they belong in the yard.

In Port Angeles most logs are made into chips. Chip Trucks haul them away to different cities. Some of the logs are exported.

We need to see some empty log trucks on the highway in ATS.

RoadHog do you mean why trucks are not carrying log trailers while empty?

I have seen AI with empty log trailers in my game.

Interesting. I've yet to see one. I'm thinking the trucks are using the wrong type of trailer.

update: I thought so. Wrong trailer type for WA, You won't see one of those at a logging camp.

What logging trailer are you talking about? Please post a pic so we get a better understanding of what trailer you are referring too.

A picture is available by looking at the Trailers for sale.
I don't have a picture of a log truck with it\s trailer ridding piggyback. I'll have to google it.

ATS only has semi trucks which tow their loads with a fifth wheel.

Those 'piggy back'-style logging trucks are different as they have a carrier (don't know proper English word) instead of a fifth wheel.

I believe he means this:

I've seen empty logging trailers in ATS, but not piggyback like the streetview picture in the link.

Yes, that's it. Often called a dolly. That's the type you'll see all over the Pacific NW.

I just got back from a trip to northwestern California (Mendocino County) and there were a lot of these there. These would be going between the forests and the mills.

Also there were a lot of flatbed trucks taking lumber from the mills to wherever they go.

If California continues to get remodeled, SCS should consider putting lumber industry between Ukiah and Eureka.

Well if they're going to do logging then they should do it the right way. Add a log truck chassis to the customizing menu. Then the player could run loads from a logging camp to a mill. As in R/L, the more trips they make in a day the more money they'd make.

Roadhog- I like where you are going with this.

Maybe you two should check out Mudrunner if you're that into logging:

Right now ATS has universal, unspecialized trucks which can haul every load.
Buy one truck and you're fine.
No worries, no regrets.
And this is not only for us players an easier way but also for developers.

Additionally i doubt if there would be enough interest by players to justify assigning resources to develop this feature.
Prior to this i would like to see straight trucks which would fit better into existing gameplay in my opinion - and even this can be trumped by easier introduction of various new trailer variants.

I have MudRunner. Great game.

I agree, ATS should probably put most of their efforts into map expansions and new trucks right now (though I still believe they should add logging industry between Ukiah and Eureka). That said, it would add realism to have a piggybacked empty logging truck parked here and there, if not made into an actual AI vehicle you can see on the roads.
