Buy both.
That way you can decide which you like better.... Maybe you'll get both
The only really big difference is driving American trucks in America vs driving European trucks in Europe
The obvious is that ATS takes place in a single setting, USA, whereas ETS2 has a lot of countries just in the base game alone. For me, that is one of the key things I prefer about ETS2. With the DLCs, it becomes even more pronounced.
Beyond that there is the other obvious part: the trucks. If you like American Trucks, which are bigger, longer, less agile, then go for ATS. If you prefer short, no-nosed or cab-over, whatever you want to call them, trucks, that are more agile, then go for ETS2.
Personally, I have both, but I really prefer ETS2 by far, although, in many respects, I think ATS looks more realistic and the scenery is great as well. That said, I think there is more diversity in the base ETS game than ATS. I only have California, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona and it gets quite samey compared to Europe (to me anyway.
If I were you, I would check out Twitch streamers and/or youtube videos to see which you prefer the look and feel of.
Happy trucking regardless which you choose!
This is the only difference. Other than that they are exactly the same game. Get both as said and enjoy.
I bought both.
I really enjoy these driving simulators and I find them so relaxing to play after a hard days work.
You also may wish to take a look at playing online. I had my reservations about MP (I've allowed myself to be so badly abused in the past) but I really enjoy it, and a great addition to both ATS, and ETS2.
What dlc's from ets2 are there
How many states are free?
The cities are comparable to the newer dlc and rework cities in ETS2. There are a lot more garages in ETS2 though, something I miss in ATS.
You only get California, Nevada and Arizona with the base game. All other states are/will be paid dlc.
There are no dlc's "from" ETS2, but there are comparable ones in ATS such as the oversize cargo and heavy haul.
No, it's not. It's just Euro Truck Simulator but with an American skin on it, with little customization and content without DLC. While costing $25.00. Purposely made to take your money. Basically a cash-grab.
Finding the specific mod you want is impossible, due to a majority of mods being paid mod/private Facebook mods, so if you like to play with lots of mods, you'll wish you didn't buy this game, as some mods can cost up to $40.00 (some paid modders might even abandon it altogether, and you'll end up losing your money). These "modders" are also very toxic people. ATS has little content, so you'll be running into them regularly if you want to find even a decent mod.
Mods make the game, you might even need mods to patch your game. Without mods, this game would be dead in a week due to how mediocre it is (e.g. Sounds, SCS sounds are terrible and don't seem to want to patch it out of lazyness. So you have to download an engine sound mod to patch the sound).
States aren't worth the $12.99 they're selling for. You'll get bored easily after a week. The total price of all state dlcs will be very high. And no, discounts mean nothing. They're there to entice you to spend money, but they still aren't worth the discounted price.
Cities are terrible, developers just copy and paste/reuse assets for all states, which ends up looking mediocre or just generic. Some states literally look like one another in some parts. Cities are so small, just literally one or two blocks and you're out of the city. SCS Software seems to think highways make the game, making wanting to deliver back and forth in a city not possible, and a complete waste of time.
Someone got me this game for me to practice getting my real life AZ CDL truck license to become a dump truck driver. But just because I didn't buy it personally, doesn't make my list any less important than anyone else's(just incase someone tries to ask).
That's just some of the things I can list about this game, but I can list more reasons not to get this game.
FIFY
I pretty much disagree with all your points, but then again, this game was meant for someone like me who wants an American trucking game where I can drive an American truck around in a world that resembles the USA. It's far from perfect, but ETS bored the hell out of me and while ATS can get boring at times (it is 90% driving with nothing but your thoughts to keep you company like real trucking), but there are plenty of mods to keep me busy and I have never felt the need to pay for a single one. Recently a KW K100 mod was released as well as a KW W900A and I will get a couple weeks of enjoyment out of those two trucks trying out different versions, accessories and paint jobs. For those who don't like American trucks, American roads or lack a certain amount of imagination, it might not be a good game, but for those of us wanting this kind of experience, nothing else comes close.
American Truck Simulator has become a medicine for thousands now.
For one, you have no idea what I want. Then again, you might be right. I was expecting a SIMULATOR as the game says, but as I expected it's marketed to casuals who haven't experienced real simulators like rFactor and the like. It's nothing but abuse of a word for marketing purposes. In other words, a dumbed-down experience to try and cater to everyone.
Also, everything I said is true, I've had enough experience with the game and community to know what's going on. You may disagree with it, but it all checks out. You're also proving that this game is what I said it is. You said you just want a trucking game you can drive around the USA, basically a casual experience. But it's funny because you can only drive around the game with Coast To Coast Mods, again proving my point, unless you want to buy state DLC for $12.99 a piece (without discounts).
And you are proving that everything you have said is NOT true but merely your opinion. My opinions differ and with good reason. But you keep thinking you are right, maybe one day you will be.
