The EPA made it illegal for commercial trucks to 'roll coal', with hefty fines for anyone caught doing it. This is in real life of course, but since real-world trucks are represented in this sim, SCS had to get permission to use them and part of that agreement was that their trucks would not be misrepresented in the sim.
Therefore, no smoke in real life equals no smoke in the sim.
Look at it this way, we have some states in the US that have made pot legal, but not every state. If I buy pot in a 'legal state' and then transport it to an 'illegal state', I'm guilty of a crime, even though the pot that I bought was purchased legally.
They are illegal in Canada; we follow the exact same laws laid out by the EPA through Criteria Air Contaminants (CAC) Emission Regulations and have since 2003.
