Realistic Cargo Weight
I wish ATS and people building trailer mods would use more realistic cargo weights. A typical 53’ dry van or a 48’ flatbed cannot carry 48,000 pounds. The truck, trailer and cargo can only weigh 80,000 pounds without a special permit. Most times when I get pulled into a weigh station I am over weight by several thousand pounds. I know this does not affect the game but it does affect the realism.

I dunno, in RL I loaded out a KW-900a, 63" sleeper, Cat engine and a 48 ft' reefer to 46,000 lbs once and was just legal. Putting 48,000 on a flatdeck is a walk in the park.

RL depends on the tractor GVW weight. Empty trailer GVW weight varies. Aluminum, steel beam, Frame less, tandem axles, spread axles, tri axles. There is a number of shippers will not load less than 48,000 some flat bed shippers will not load less than 49,000. Be careful with the amount of fuel added in order to comply with a 80,000 GVW...

Agree with what you are saying about SCS and mods. They need to do research on what a item weighs. Not very good at getting weights correct. Viper-2 389 Pete with different set up and the amount of fuel will weigh different amount. "Have Not" tested the SCS tractors weight with various configurations and fuel. Not sure they may be the same weight? Will test and see. Same for trailers Reefers and flats should weigh a different amount depending on configuration.

Not sure where the OP is getting his info from...typical linehaul 53' with a translucent roof is usually in the 13,000 lb range and typical tare on a fleet spec tractor is in the 16,500 range. Like the others said already, many large shippers will not even load anything that can't take 48,000 in a dryvan....many of the paper mills roll to 4,000/8,000 pounds and if you can't take 12/6, you won't even get a door number...

I am using a Viper2 tractor and a MAC 48' x 102" Aluminum Flatbed (Dro Modding).

All weights done on the game CAT scale.

Viper2 tractor (3/4 tank of fuel) = 24,769 pounds
MAC 48' x 102" Aluminum Flatbed = 12,801 pounds
Total = 37,570 pounds

Max weight is 80,000 pounds

Total weight of cargo that I can legal haul is 42,430 pounds.
