How do you bypass traffic jams?

I'm south bound on 580, crossing the bridge between San Rafael(?) and Oakland. There is an accident involving a car, cement truck and a semi blocking both lanes and the cops are blocking the right shoulder (no way around). I literally have no where to go.

How long does the game take to clear the site? I don't want to cheat and teleport or anything like that. As it is I think when I reload the save I made to come here and ask about traffic accidents it's just going to be me on the bridge.

That is called a detour. They were added in a previous game version. Sadly the road network in ATS does not do this feature justice. It is mostly a royal PITA right now.

Most of these have enough room to just squeak by on the shoulder of the road.

You can turn this feature off by going to Options >> Gameplay >> moving slider for Detours all the way left.

This will not cause the current detour to disappear however.

Already had the setting all the way to the left. Edited: There is also a setting for "Random Road Events", maybe I should move that one all the way left as well? The thing is I don't want to make the game too easy. Then it just gets to boring.

I know this works for a lot of traffic jams, but I'm not sure about detours. I will just close the game (or switch profiles) then reopen the game and usually the traffic is gone.

The detours block the road but the random events just slow the traffic and don't cause much problem once you get used to them. If you did a quick save and then loaded that quick save it would clear any traffic jam. However, that is usually only needed at certain locations on the map when the traffic does come to a complete stop and won't move and that only happens very rarely when you play but it is an option without resorting to activating the developer's console which is another option.

You could do that at the detours but for realism it would make no sense and you may as well just switch them off in the options.

By the sounds of it there was an accident that occured at a random event since you have detours set to off. Simply save game then load and traffic will magically disappear. Sometimes the dumb AI wont budge regardless of how long you wait.

This feature is not one I enjoy right now. As mentioned, due to the way the ATS map works, you can end up being unable to even reach your destination. I find myself just squeezing by them lately.

Sometimes you get stuck in a detour because no matter what route you take you will always end in the same opposite direction where is also a detour. Its a bug of the game that scs will fix one day if we are lucky.

The other problem and this is bad luck is when you find a detour and at the same time in the same spot an event in the road. The only way to avoid that is teleporting or as someone said, if you close the game, and load it again, you will continue without those problems on the roda (luckily). But so you know, detours and events wont clear. They will stay it there forever. So, waiting is not an option.

Here's an example of me getting fed up by AI cars in ETS2. Time to put that bull bar of mine to good use. I got no damage by plowing through the cars.
