From the size I would say the base map in ATS is like ETS 2 base map without UK.

Honestly if your going to get ATS you definitely should invest getting the map and trailer DLCs but as a stock without DLCs I think you would enjoy the 3 states (one of those 3 are a free DLC Arizona I believe) as a whole since they have updated those states since the release plus give ya a different feel to trucking since Euro is obviously different trucking style. I feel gettiing all the current States and Trailers DLCs will make ATS a much better experience aswell with the new state Washington very worth the money.

But overall it is worth every penny as I feel the same way with ETS as well, both are great games and neither ats or ets are better than one another because they both provide a different driving experience.

I hope that helped you, Im horrible with explaining lol

They're about as expensive as a McDonalds meal and give you far more enjoyment, probably healthier too. :-)

yes, definately worth it. the 3-state base map covers roughly the same area as the base map on ETS2.

the 3 paid for DLC states almost double the worldspace and the cargo DLC's add extra depth/dimension to the gameplay.

plus they are all on sale at the moment so you could probably get the entire west coast and some cargo DLC for the cost of just the base game when it's not on sale.

Stick with ETS2 for now i would suggest. You wont get the USA experience just yet until they complete way more states. Happy trucking all :steamhappy:

As the old Mack truck mechanic Billy Paul used to say ( as he would shake his old jello bowl of a head ), " this is the hell of it..we just don't know..we just don't gawdamn know" .

I found it worth it, but it felt more constrained than the base Euro Truck Simulator 2 area, to me at least.

That said, some of the default ETS2 area isn't high quality, or wasn't last I played it. England and Germany were pretty bland (maybe they got improved in the last few years?) So I think in terms of experiences, they are pretty similar value for money.

However, California, Nevada & Arizona (base game area) are all more desert than anything else. They vary in desert feel for sure, and that's pretty cool, but I think some players might want more variety which Oregon and Washington definitely do provide.

It's tricky for me to judge because Europe is "exotic" to me, as I don't live there. Driving into my home town of San Francisco in ATS was fun, and I can recognize what they are interpreting (Patterson Pass is particularly good), but overall there's none of the interest of looking up the cities I don't know so much.
