Well if you want to play with friends or just people in general "TruckersMP" is the MP mod (the only one) You must first play SP long enough to earn your own truck and to show you have played the game long enough to know what you're doing. Also if you use this mod I suggest you follow them on FB for updates and such. Keep in mind this is a group of people that made this a hobby and do it for free, they are in no way tied to SCS nor do they work with them on updates. So when ATS updates, it takes these guys time to get the mod updated (which means during that time you will have to down grade ATS to continue playing on the mod until the update is patched in.

Look for mods that make the game as real as possible. Good trucks, better AI traffic, sounds, anything that makes it real. Get to know the authors of different mods, some better then others.
Good luck, enjoy the ride.

Depends on what you want, truck, skins, trailers, and on and on. If you want to drive different trucks Harven's FLB is a good one if your into cab overs his FLD is a conventional. Sisl's mods are great if you want to add interior items such as CB radio, and a ton of other items and even a passenger or pet to keep you company. There are so many mods it's really a personal choice of what your looking for. Always read the comments that are left on the workshop, that usually is a good indication if it's a good mod or if people have had issues with it. When you do subscribe to a mod remember to activate it in your profile in game, you'll see a message saying New Mods Found click it and it will bring up all the mods you subscribe to and just double click them to activate. You have to do that for every profile you create so you can have different mods for different profiles. Read the mod description, some mods need to have certain load orders. Sorry I can't be more specific on what to get, like I said it's really a personal choice.
Oh and always have a blank profile, I mean no mods activated if you want to opt in on the beta releases. Sometimes certain mods won't work in beta and can even break your profile, all your progress down the drain. There are mods you can use to jump start a new profile to earn extra money. I've only done it once to jump start a backup profile for beta, my everyday profile I've earned every penny of to get where I am from the start, no money mod. Seems like a long road to work your way up, but when you can start hiring new drivers and adding trucks to your fleet it really picks up.

I have them installed in this order of Priority in the Mod Manager.

All these Mod authors keep their Mods up to date with the newest version of ATS.
I have done nearly 80 hours in my newest profile with all these Mods installed from day 1 and no crashes.

One of the Mods I don't have currently installed, either Bus Sounds or Classic Car Sounds for the Jazzycat packs crashed me to desktop on another profile so I uninstalled both. There was a conflict somewhere. It could have even been because I was running 8 channel stereo at the time.

I keep a seperate profile just to test new truck mods and random junk I find online. This way I don't break my main game. I find some terrible mods online, but am curious to try them.

The best mods are the most subscribed ones so check those out. I have things like real service stations, real companies, graphics mod, better headlights, longer yellow traffic lights etc in my game but essentially other than graphics mods I play the game as vanilla and really enjoy it. Too many mods can lead to instabilities and conflicts which is why I try to restrict the use of them myself.
