gearbox with neutral and reverse
i am thinking about getting a gearbox. I thought about the TH8A but I understand there is no neutral, and I don't know about reverse on that box. I need something that is compatible with the Thrustmaster T150 wheel and works on a PC. If anyone here has one, knows of one, and can recommend a name brand will be a great help. I am really getting into this game, but I do not know much about it yet. I will consider all the hints. Thanks all.

Neutral is in the middle.
Reverse is all the way to the right and down.

The TH8A has several slots, or several middles. I will try the center of them all see if that works. I am sure it will have to be mapped on the games's options. I will try the reverse on the last slot and down also. I am assuming your suggestion works well for you it will work for me also Thanks.

Based on RLexperience: Reverse far left and forward slot one. 1st gear (LL) Far left and back slot 2, 2nd gear Slot 3, 3rd gear slot 4, 4th gear slot 5, 5th gear slot 6. Eaton 18 Speed shift pattern Per Eaton + Gear splis on each gear.

Edit: Eaton, Dana, Spicer, Fuller transmission shift patterns for the following transmissions. 9 5 13, 12 5 13, 15, 18, 5 & 4, 6 & 4. reverse is full left and forward. 1st is full left and back then follow the H Pattern. Your choice on how to set it up...

Bill Paradise is correct on the T8 Lay out.
On the T8 not using the 7th or R slots.

Wow! Thanks for the tips. A bit technical some of the responses but I will make it work. My endeavors never included a semi. Now I am engrossed in this I want to learn all about it.so, from a layman’s point of view is there a manual where I can read and understand the lingo in these replies? Thanks.

You can map the TH8 gates to whatever gear you want in the game and use one of the generic range+split profiles. This means you could have reverse in the 2nd top gate if you want for some reason.

Or you can use a specific shift profile such as Eaton 13, 15 or 18 speed which correspond to the real world gate positions.

When someone says neutral is in the 'middle' on the TH8, what they mean is when the stick is slack i.e. not moved into a gate. This is exactly how a manual transmission works in the real world.

For PC, the TH8A is a separate USB controller, it will be fine. All H-shifter controllers will have both a neutral & reverse though the reverse slot is unused for this game as the manual versions of the Eaton-Fuller transmissions used have their reverse gear slot at the 1st gear position of the physical shifter (all the way to the left and up). Of course, you could also just map the positions however you like anyway.

In these transmissions the 7th & reverse gear slots aren't used (which means you can actually use those 'spare' slots for other inputs eg. trailer hitching, or whatever).

Man, this all sounds so complicated. I want to keep it simple at least for a while until I get more familiar with this technology. The closest I ever got to a manual transmission was a first, second, and third. I thank you all for trying to help.

The 6 and 7 speed transmissions in game you are able to assign gates on the TH8A if needed. You also do not need to assign a range selector or splitter buttons.

The transmissions down below you will need to assign a range selector and/or splitter buttons. The last 2 right hand gates on the TH8A is not used with any of these transmissions

I also suggest watching videos on youtube on how to shift a 10, 13 and/or 18 speed transmission.

It's not as complicated as it might at first sound. Don't worry, just get the shifter if you want it, the rest will more-or-less work itself out as you go :).

oh i'm gonna get it. It will add more realism to the game. I am thinking that I will buy another truck and have manual transmission on that one to practice without screwing up my progress with the other truck. I am guessing that I can have trucks with different setups. What do you think?
Cro-magnon579 Jun 19, 2019 @ 1:33pm
AyMazingATS, thanks for the diagrams. The first one the Easton Fuller 10 speed seems the logical route for me as a novice. I could try the 13 speed, but the 18 speed diagram, there’s no way I can replicate that my first time around. Driving down the road at a busy intersection, how would you even know what gear you are in (18 speed) you need some e pertinence for that. Thanks again. Will post later on how it went.
AyMazingATS Jun 19, 2019 @ 2:03pm
The 13 and 18 are pretty much the same transmission. The only difference is you can also "split" the gears on the low side in an 18 speed.

You really do not need to split gears either unless you are hauling something extremely heavy (think haul truck chassis in Special Transport DLC) or above 65mph to lower rpms for better fuel mileage.

Will the Easton Fuller 10 speed be able to pull an eighty thousand pound load up hill, up a very steep hill, like one of the ramps I’ve encountered? As effectively as an 18 gear one?

Yes it will on a 7% grade you would be in about 3rd or 4th gear depending on engine HP and Torque. A 10 speed will not be as efficient as a 18 speed. Reason is the RPM splits between each gear. Lower the number of gears in a transmission the wider the RPM split is. Higher the number of gears in the transmission the closer the RPM split is.

Suggest you use a 18 speed and skip gears. Run it as a 10 speed. It would be a great learning curve. Your choice. Every one starts out green in game or RL...

not a bad suggestion. I had intended to stick with the ten speed for a while and get used to changing gears. Never drove a manual, not even a car, so this will be a learning experience for me as it is for most of the guys here. That said, the 18 and skipping gears would be a learning experience too but at a higher level and frustrating situation. If I can map it to 18 speed, I think I'll go for it. Learned a lot and I have a lot more to think about it. I'll get it done. Thanks.
