How do you set a high idle in this game.
I am sick of having to rev the engine every time at around 1,000rpm. And would like to know if there is a way to set a high idle so I can get a cup of coffee and let the engine warm up while I have a chance to relax.

Does the engine need be warmed up in the sim?
No. But not doing so destroys the cylinder walls. And having the engine warm up at under 1,000 rpm is not ideal. Since it's meant to operate at above 1,000 rpm. And then their is the thing with letting it warm up at under 1,000 rpm will let diesel mix in with the engine oil. And that is also bad. Because it all of these things will cause serious engine blowby. Yes I said the scary word.

Some of that is accurate if you are talking about engines from the 80's...this hasn't been a thing in decades though and certainly is not replicated in any way in the game.
Can the engine get overheat in the sim?

No.

Only "damage" that occurs is by crashing and tire wear. Allthough you can't have a puncture either, it just adds to the damage percentage...
The other thing on tire wear...if you push it up over 80% you start to get control issues with the truck...random swaying back and forth in the lane, even more noticeable if it is we.
Tire blowouts would be nice. Oh wait. SCS cannot have such damage models in the game because of licensing. This really is getting in the way of having a proper sim.
What lame ass licensing agreement prevents modelling things that happen in real life?
just a myth people have come up with, scs has never stated any details about their licensing deals

Pavel did say, during a live stream, that the licensing prohibited damage modelling. Not a myth.

a tire blow out doesn't damage the model of the truck though

Maybe the tire manufacturers don't want their tires being depicted in a blowout.
That could be misconstrued as 'bad p.r.'...
This is clearly a problem, ATS/ETS can now only be a modeling showcase, especially if simulation aspects are kept as light as they are.

You don't seem to realize that there is a difference between a 'simulator' and a 'game'.
Before this argument gets started again, there are different varieties of simulators and games.
Some simulators are more 'arcade' like, meaning that they play like a game, basically.
Others are designed to be taken more seriously, and most of those do not depict actual damage.
The 'arcady' sim may show damage, but that depends on several factors between the publisher and any licensors they may be dealing with.

In short, this is a simulator representing driving American trucks on American highways, period.
It's not meant to be extremely realistic as then it would be like a real job, and it's definitely NOT meant to be some kind of "demolition derby" where every vehicle on the road is a potential target.

You want that?
Go play GTA V or Saint's Row...
So should we call this a game or a lite simulation?

Call it what SCS calls it.., American Truck Simulator.

Being a long-time simmer, I'd call this a light simulator.
