BEST MONITOR ?
Hi, looking to upgrade my 27inch 1440p monitor to either ultra wide 1440p or a 4k monitor/TV which is best for ATS and ETS and some other racing sim games.

Thanks

I personally use a 27" in 1440 . . . mainly cause I can't afford that monitor Squirrel is using. LOL

Might to check out this one: Samsung C49RG94SSU

https://www.samsung.com/de/monitors/qled-gaming-monitor-c49rg9-zg/ - especially when you´re into Sims and racing games... 32:9 with 5440 x 1440 , should give you a nice view - of course you need a GPU that can handle it.

So is ultra wide effects better than having 4k hdr monitor/TV?

At the moment running an Asus 980TI OC GPU.

Ultrawide monitors off you better visibility from side to side, since for most sim games you don't need to view up and down. For practicality, an ultrawide monitor allows you to open more windows side-by-side, like as if on a desk.

The downside is the more pixels your monitor supports, the harder your graphics card has to work to fill those pixels.

Yes, problems!
As Twelvefield pointed out, whatever resolution your display/s is, it needs a graphics card powerful enough.
So we don't have any idea if you are able to run ATS ultra settings or med.
As an example, I have triple monitors @ 5760 x 1080 with a GTX1080. That's 6.2 million pixels and I use med to high settings with no scaling.
A 4K UHD has 8.3 million pixels that need feeding. Food for thought. :2017stickydrink:

Ultrawide is perfect for games like ATS as the additional screenspace really adds to the immersion. There are a few nice LG and Samsung 3440x1440p monitors for around £300-400 but you may have to spend a little more for 100hz+. 34 inch is recommended.16:9 feels really boxed in now and I'd struggle to go back to this format.

4K may look good but it is very demanding and you may have to tone down a lot of settings in-game just to get a decent framerate particularly on newer titles. People blindly buy low hz 4K monitors and then wonder why they only get 25fps on medium settings with their mid-range GPU.

32:9 is perfect if you just play sims but if you're into FPS and 3rd person titles, 21:9 is ideal.

Thank you all for your help. leaning towards the new ASUS ROG PG35VQ would my Asus 980TI Strix handle this monitor.

Absolutely.. it was the combo I ran for a couple of years until I made the move to the 1080Ti, had the PG35VQ for just over 3 years, and the G-Sync well that is the very smoooooth icing on the cake

Guys, sorry if I highjack this thread... but I´m also thinking to upgrade from a 34" 21:9 monitor (3440x1440) to something bigger. This leaves my with (imo) two options. Going to 32:9 or some 4K monitor with somewhat 40" <- preferred, but it would be only 16:9.

BUT: Please confirm if I got this right. Even if I would go from a 21:9 with 3440xXY to a 16:9 4K monitor the FOV would be better, due to the higher resolution, correct?

Playing currently mostly Sims and from time to time other stuff (shooter, sports and strategy)

One of my long term goals is to get an HDMI projector to use as a monitor for flight and driving Sims
