American Truck Simulator

American Truck Simulator

More Than Trucks...DLC for vans, cars, etc.
As we all want to see SCS succeed and the map continue to grow, I keep thinking of DLC which might be included or added to help accelerate the operation.

One idea I had is featuring different driving possibilities besides trucking. I worked for many years driving a courier van with hot shot deliveries that was much like the game, but smaller vehicles moving faster and more urgently. These are beautiful maps, and being able to play them as more conventional vehicles would be easier to code, for certain, and a chance to expand the game into new modes of being.

I don't want to detract from the core model, but rather put some more resources into making a big map happen we all can enjoy with trucks at the heart of the system.

I didn't realize this game was called "American Truck, Van, Car, etc Simulator."

I will agree adding Vans, Cars, Trucks would be excellant for this, but most will not agree with me. I could see scs spin of both ETS2 and ATS maps have it include other vehicles someday. Right now the focus is the map and adding features like trailer ownership.

I've been saying for years (or thinking atleast, and said it a few times) they should make a "World Transport Simulator", which could and would include all sorts of vehicles. :)

*edit: until that happens though, I'd love some DLC like this for the truck sims.

There's really no reason to be able to drive a car in this game, it's American Truck Simulator...
I think all OP is wanting to do is merge their GTAV obsession with 18 wheelers... lol

On the point of vans and smaller delivery trucks, like the UPS and FedEx vehicles, as an example, I could see being able to drive those as potentially useful, atleast in terms of scenarios related to realism and immersion...
They haul cargo too, usually in the form of packages, but cargo none-the-less, but cars? Nope, that is just asking for trouble and has no legitimate use in a 'truck sim'...

The only smaller vehicle I could see being added is a heavy duty like duely with a flatbed for smaller deliveries. Other than that I wouldn’t even bother in-game with vans etc for tiny deliveries as the pay would be almost unnoticeable.

The problem is that I have driven big vans as most people probably have at one time. I do drive a car. Not that many people have driven a big rig since it requires a different license.

That's partly the appeal of simulators, they allow you to do something that you might not otherwise do...

I served in the US Air Force, but never flew a plane. I worked on them, I was a maintenance tech (crew chief) and flew on them, but was never a pilot.
So I have a couple of flight sims that allow me to fly planes that I would otherwise never get to do.
Same with ATS, I've never driven an 18 wheeler, but always wanted to, so this gives me the opportunity to do something that I will probably never do in real life, drive a big rig.

Sure, I drive a car, and I also drive a pickup truck, but since I can do that in real life, I have no honest desire to do it in a game since all I really have to do is get off my fat a$$ and go get in my car or truck and drive it til the tank is dry if I want... lol
I can't drive my car or truck like you can in a sim, since you can go to jail for causing accidents and exceeding the speed limit to dangerous levels among other things, but then if you want to drive a vehicle like that, there are plenty of games out there that are designed just for that kind of thing. We don't need that in a truck sim...

What ? Do you know this game is suppose to simulate driving a Truck ? Though driving a courier van would be nice but this is a Truck driving Simulator a drivable van would not make any sense in a Truck simulator.

No thanks. I rather them spend thier resources and time on adding more for the Truck Driving such as more states and trucks.

They would need the licenses just like they do for trucks to add cars and vans. They already have enough trouble getting the truck manfacturers on board I don't want them wasting time on the other stuff.

Until SCS has obtained unlimited funds and resources, I wish them to continue refining their truck sim titles, and not attempting to create an "anything and everything sim".

The reason I made the suggestion is because I believe it would be far less labor intensive to add a few new vehicles and modes of cargo handling, and such profits as they made would help fund further expansions of the base map to grow the trucking side.

SCS would do well to seek easy ways to monetize existing assets and structures, like a weather pack could also do, so the maps can continue forward which is what the game will need to survive and the company to prosper.

This doesn't fit with their current business model with regards to updates and future DLCs:

"We surely do not plan to stop working on American Truck Simulator world with Arizona. However, please be aware that the road ahead of us is long, and it will take us years to cover the continent.
We will continue to add features to the game with regular free updates
, but most further map expansion DLCs, if not all, will be paid. We have had to pick a business model allowing us to build more than ten times the amount of content compared to what we are launching with."

You're making a lot of bad assumptions here.
