Parts of the map that need a touch up
This isn't a complaint list in the slightest. It is a testiment to the great work SCS has done. With each new update they have improved the game to make it more immersive and realistic. Case and point when you look at Arizona and especially New Mexico. They way the cities flow and actually sprawl, and expand around roads to look larger and more realistic. Then you go back and look at the original map, which was great, but now lacks the new assets and new techniques SCS has employed. Ever so kindly, they continue to update the original maps with new content.

So the point of this topic are what areas do you think SCS could still improve on?

My list below...

1. Oakland. This area is great, but they need to make it feel more populated. Something that always bugged me was Oakland in particular. No road that gets as much heavy traffic and trucking as Oakland would have such a horrible entry of tight roads. I like a challenge, but those are bad. How come we can't at least see Oakland's skyline from San Fran or how come there is no Oakland downtown skyline at all? We should be driving up right next to it! It just seems too small.

2. San Jose. Supposedly we drive through it on 101 south of San Fran, but it sure never feels like it. They have tried to populate the area with some buildings, but it needs to still feel more populated. We should see San Jose's downtown as we drive by. Not just walls blocking homes.

3. Santa Monica is a wonderful town they added, but spread out some homes along the freeway to make it seem bigger. You did a terrific job doing this with Oxnard making it feel sprawling.

4. Los Angeles. Add more sprawl, more homes and buildings along the freeway. Make it seem like a heavily populated area. Right now when I drive through LA it doesn't feel like the second most populated metro area. Also whats up with the skyline? Make the buildings match the real skyline more. You've done this with smaller cities like Frenso, Tucson, etc. Why not LA? The jewel city of California should look more like it.

5. Redding. It's okay.... but it feels so tiny. None of it reminds of real life Redding. Like my previous responses above, sprawl it out a bit more, give it more then that cramped one road. Perfect opportunity to remedy this is when you add Oregon, fix up Northern California. Add some new assets.

So pretty much all my areas of improvements are on the oldest map in California, and they all come to the same tune. Make some of the older cities feel larger like you have done in the newest DLC maps. When driving on the freeway next to a big city, I shoudln't see nothing but an exit ramp and maybe a gas station. I should see buildings and homes lining the freeway as if the city is actually there for awhile.

Love the game, would like to see if others agree and what areas of the map you think could be improved upon! Merry Christmas!

I wish they would fix the highways near San Diego, especially the interchanges. They look so..unfinished. And LA I completely agree on. Reason Oakland is probably so left out is because it isn't as important as other cities. It doesn't really have anything iconic to it, like LA and SF's skyline.

Doubt they will rebuild Los Angeles but I do agree not to qaulity of Phoenix, and the sprawl goes 150 miles inland and they need Long Beach ports, but at 1:35 scale at the time they made lots of compromises. I do hope they revisit Los Angeles And improve it

The single thing I wish they did in terms of full-on map edits is to build up Los Angeles out to the eastern side of the 15/10 interchange and maybe even add more city roads with gas stations, another truck dealer, and some businesses... this would make the city feel absolutely huge!

Absolutely agree that LA needs to be revisted! I also think Frisco is underdone as well, but if I had to choose, I'd say LA needs the most attention to detail.

I agree with you that it needs some love and attention. I guess the reason why it is what it is, is that its an effect of the original scale. When rescaling, well, the graphics that is a bit in the distant is same as before. But that is just my guess.

While I would love to see a touch up I doubt very much this ever happens. Just based on Euro Truck Simulator 2 history and how they still have the old models in the game. Like the UK. Germany.

I also have been to Redding a lot and it looks nothing like it does in this game. Both Redding and Eureka are spread out towns. In game they are very tight towns. That being said both towns look much better then some of the old towns in Euro Truck 2. Towns in Germany and the UK both look out of date now.

Loving hearing everyone's comments and input. The concensus seems similar.

I agree with so many of you on your comments. Baddog993, I agree with you too on that. Eureka needs a little love, but I tried not to make the list too massive. My guess is that is they do Oregon and extend 101, they may alter it up a bit. At least they attempted to give it a downtown that looks "victorian" ha! But Redding is one of the biggest culprits of just not being right.

I also understand the few comments on Phoenix. I know it isn't perfect, but at least it sprawls out some like a real city. You got suburbs in the north, west, and down to the airport. The weakest area would be south of downtown. Those streets driving in look like "hickville" more then a downtown area of Phoenix.

Sacremento could use the same love, mainly the north end by downtown and add some homes and suburbs through the tree's along the highway. Make it looks bigger. Skyline is great.

I mean, we could go on forever here I am sure about this, and I am not stopping you! Any other towns or areas you think need work?

Oakland badly needs to be redone as its a big city around 420,000 people lives there. Most of the cities in CA was built on the 1:35 scale and they havent changed much besides Oxnard in the rescale. Los Angeles needs to be redone too, add 6 lanes to the highways especially on the i5 and traffic jams like in RL!

I think Oakland is the biggest crime in SCS. For a city of it's size to barely be seen except for some docks is a crime indeed. Lol.

Someone mentioned above SCS might add Crescent City or some other Northern Cali towns as they expand into the beautiful Pacific Northwest regions of Oregon and Washington...

I may be "old news" here and not sure how long these signs have been there, but I used to remember them being fully blocked out. Just like on I-5, they now say north is Medford, Oregon.

I took a few photos of the Crescent City signs in Eureka. What makes this exciting is that they could be looking into filling in more Highway 101 up the Oregon coast and then hopefully someday around Washington's Olympic Peninsula! All beautiful, forested, coastal roads with plenty of big rig tricky and precision required!

So if they also add Crescent City, there is a chance they will touch up Eureka, Redding, Hornbrook (still not sure why that town in on the map, lol. Should be Yreka).

Including Santa Cruz, but leaving out Monterrey is a major sin IMO.
I also agree that Oakland needs to be redone and they need to include the Caldicott Tunnel on Rte 24.
Also while we're on the subject, the tunnel N of the Golden Gate is WAY too long!

I am thrilled they are continuing to improve old areas of the map. I keep trying to explore around Oakland (which is horribly represented) and San Jose. San Jose pretty much doesn't exist...

Oakland's skyline should be seen, but there is a confusing cluster of mid-rises north of Oakland.... is that supposed to be Berkley?

Carlsbad for some reason has high rises. They did touch up San Diego in a recent update and made the skyline be a bit better then just generic shapes in the distance.

I see the great work they have done with New Mexico and see what they are doing with Oregon and Washington and am super excited. Albuquerque and Tucson at this point may be the best done cityscapes. But Portland is looking pretty good in the recent photos. Phoenix and Reno are well too.

Really excited. Love to hear your feedback on other places that need touch ups and improvements.

Yet they recently snuck in San Luis Obispo, which I know isn't Monterrey, but just another city that isn't Monterrey. They seem to like a strange mix of well known cities, but then sometimes skipping them for silly named cities.

For example, In the upcoming expansion of Northern California when Oregon comes out, they probably won't include Arcata, but they are including the hamlet of Fort ♥♥♥♥. (We know they choose that because of the name).

I think my #1 would be Los Angeles. It's the biggest real life city in the game so far, but feels kind of small compared to Phoenix and Albuquerque. Also it should have a lot more traffic during the day, though I understand FPS considerations are probably to blame for this.

San Jose I think is the biggest real life city to not really be in the game, and I think this should be addressed with at least a city limit sign on US 101 and some kind of skyline you can drive past.

Outside of that I would suggest adding more neon to Reno. It's all right during the day, but at night it doesn't really feel like you're going through Reno. They have the sign outside the Nugget ("Nudged" in game), but it's like someone forgot to pay the power bill.

Lol, all of that will never happen. The game is on a "pro/am" engine built by mid level developers who are fighting to maintain frame rate and graphic performance as it is. All of your suggestions of adding yet more detail would bring the game to it's proverbial knees.
It's a game, not a world simulator, for that I suggest you skip on over to the flight sims and explore geographical add ons and upgrades. This would be a good suggestion for all the whiners who want the 50 states in ATS as well. They're all there already in flight sims, with some accuracy and more available depending on your time and budget. Fun times.

We're not hear to talk about anything you just said. It's a topic to simply know what you would like to see touched up. It's more of knowing your opinion and having fun, whether they do it or not. It's not like SCS will ever read this topic anyways. It's just a fun topic. Even you know of areas that need some better touch up then what's there. In a "perfect world" what would you like to see changed or improved upon?
