Speeding ticket the second it changes
I was cruising the highway at the posted limit (75). Came up on a 65 sign; as soon as I was able to read it, I began to slow down - but by the time I passed the sign, I was only down to about 68ish. BAM speeding ticket. The police ticketing in this is WAY too exact - there should be a bit of leeway when there's a speed change to give you a chance to adjust.

yea that´s a problem...sadly your "ingame eyes" are not as good as your real ones, so you can read a sign rather late... i´d personally suggest SCS builds in some tolerance distance or a way to determine if your truck is slowing down within a few seconds... or they send you a "speed change 75-->>65" signal to your route advisor like half a mile before :)

Erm, you can easily slow down by the required 10 mph when you see the new speed limit. If it's 75 down to a 30 I can understand that, but 75 down to a 65? You can easily read the speed limit sign in time to slow down TEN mph.......
In real life I doubt police would even bother to issue a ticket to a vehicle slowing down to the limit. But then game mechanics are even one extreme or the other.

there is a value concerning "delay" for ticketing.
I changed all of mine to 20seconds
Even red light fines lol

Many of the 70+ down to 30 have been tweaked to have stepped speed drops, during closed beta for the rescale I was looking for these sudden drops, but it's a big map so some map have been missed.

If you see a speed limit sign and you are unfamiliar with the area, prepare to slow down. Use the zoom feature to give yourself extra time to slow down. Be aware what is on the road. There are no cameras by speed signs, but if you take notice of whether there are police cars behind you or comming towards you, you can react accordingly. When in doubt slow down, it might turn out that you didn't need to, but speeding up again is less anoying than a ticket.

In my area it depends on what speed they are at when they reach the sign and when they started to slow down.

Here you should be at the speed limit before the sign is reached, so if you are above the speed limit and the 11% allowance they will pull you over. That's the UK for ya.

Interesting. I may need to do some tweaking with these. Red lights i will leave alone though.

There are some really unfair spots regarding interstates. You will be cruising along and suddenly it says: 35 mph because of a roadworks. BAM! Instant ticket. :steamsad:
I've been nailed there several times by the police. Be careful at weigh stations when you leave them.

It's better to simply turn off fines. It's a nuisance for honest drivers.

If you roleplay a law abiding driver, you can (as said above) just turn off the fines. You know you'll respect the law so you won't get ticketed anyway for wrong doing, and if you do get caught in a system/gameplay issue, you know it probably would've ended up differently (without a fine) in real life.

I do have to say one extra thing, though. This also wouldn't have happened if you would've enabled the truck speed limit option (which is 65).

This is what I've done. I still stop at red lights, and stop fully at most stop signs. The only thing is I'm usually a little over the speed limit (the signs are hard to read sometimes until you're fairly close to them). Thing about speeding, really nobody is typically going to ticket anyone for doing say 68ish when the speed had just dropped to 65.

Can't really say for the States... but here in Canada (depending on how fast the speed limit is and what zone you might be in) drivers tend to stay around 10 Km above the posted speed limit. It's like the unofficial tolerance where you're not going to get ticketed. Actually come to think of it, the unofficial tolerance is probably closer to around 15km above if the speed limit is 80 and above I'd say, just I'm just throwing numbers out there. Construction and School zones are probably the only areas where speeding isn't tolerated.

5 to 7 mph above the speed limit is pretty average in the states. Anything over that any you are risking a ticket.

I must be the world's best driver on ATS...

I see these posts all the time and I think to myself, "I've been to those areas, or in that situation, and never got a fine.."
I didn't turn off fines, I don't use a mod to "block" fines or the police. In fact, I have a mod to display all 'State Police' vehicles, so in a way, I almost have "more" police... lol
I almost never get a speeding ticket, I've actually been fined more often for "accidents" where one of the AI vehicles decided to suddenly bolt over in front of me and then slam on their brakes.
I routinely set my cruise control for about 3mph over the posted speed limit, no tickets there either. I almost always make a right on red (after first signalling and coming to a complete stop) and have never got a fine for that, though I did get a fine once for attempting a "California Stop". lol

What I'm getting at is either I'm the "Best ATS Driver" (which I doubt :steamhappy:) or you guys are doing something wrong and just not realizing it, because I almost never get fined.., and I do nearly all the same stuff that you all mention...

Well maybe you are! :) What I worry about is... getting fined for silly things. Technically going a tad over the limit is speeding. Not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.... I just don't want to have riciculous tickets I guess? I usually follow all the rules mostly.

I do some things though.... Like almost stopping but then rolling through a stop sign if the way is clear. Yes it's an offense but if nobody sees it... you know. :) But if I'm turning right on a red light, I don't want to get ticketed because perhaps I drove outside the confines of what the game thinks is the proper pathing and ticket me for going through the red. Not sure how finicky it is on that. The odd time the nose of my truck might be slighty over the line, it's still a stop and I don't want to get a ticket for that. Or I know the light is about to change green and I may begin to release the clutch and creep forward...
Capt Fuzzy Jan 3, 2017 @ 11:16am
Yeah, this game does tend to be a bit finicky with some of it's "triggers" if you will, but knowing and actually using the "legal" rules of the road seems to be working for me, I haven't got a fine for anything like that in weeks... lol
