I think it's a bit of a translation issue and "unauthorized" isn't quite the correct word that should be there. Mods are not supported by SCS so when you use them the game is giving you that warning to remind you of their presence in your game.
That is considered a DLC not a mod.
Well we all know that two brands of trucks can get boring. and i noticed that they gave that warning.. I dont go to external sites anymore, because most of them like ATS Mods have links to download sites that want to lock your computer or take control of it.. so yeah..
It was just a question that i came up with since SCS didnt have any links to a mod page..
I like steam, though steam is annoying as i get the impression that when loading a mod from steam. if it is updated it affects your game and sometimes in a big way..
Specially if you have a fleet of trucks at a station.... It would be nice if steam loaded the mod onto the computer instead..
That's exactly what it does. Two things are different:
1. The mod is loaded automatically by the game.
2. Whenever the author updates the mod, it's instantly available.
To have a fleet of mod trucks is fine. To have a whole bunch of trailer mods is just as fine.
But you agree to the consequences when those mods don't work because of some game update.
That is the reason for the message about unauthorised mods.
Finding that sites like ATS Mods provides links to download sites that contain visus/ ads that want to lock your computer if you dont call them isnt that funny, specially when they have actually locked my browser once. I had to exit the browser and reopen it in an unssual method...
(I had to close my browser through task manager and reopen it it not via the main shortcut that one would normally open their browser with)
as for mods, steam might load them on your computer, though when i mod is updated by the author, your mod is then affected when you play it, if the mod has not been updated by steam straight away, (thats what i meant more so)
The unauthorized mods was kind of a joke. well i was seeing the funny side of it since scs does not have an official mod website where you can safely download mods for the game...
Where as if you play games like fallout 3 NV and 4 and skyrim and witcher etc.. you have a site just for mods, like the Nexus.. lol.. thats why the lol at the very end.. lol
Also, especially with sharemods site, after you click on 'download' and the new page loads, wait for it to entirely load. The 'download' button on this page seems to get overwritten at the end of the page's code. I don't know if that is what actually happens? but it caught me out once about 2 years ago. Ever since I waited for the whole page to load, it's never been a problem.
The only 'authorized' mods would be the DLC for sale for both games really. You could consider those as authrized mods perhaps. But maybe SCS can change the wording to say "unofficial" - that may be more accurate IMO.
I reckon just remove the preceeding word to 'mods' altogether. Nothing SCS releases is a 'mod'. If you mod folder is empty, you don't see that message.
Actually, that would be a good experiment. Disable all your mods, see if the message still appears.
I think you miss understood what i was saying... I did not say sites that show mods have viruses, i said they link to download sites that try to block your computer...
Its funny you know, people say that all the time and computers have been around for years, one would think that would be obvious everyone i know has an anti virus program on their machine that does it all... lol
Yep it is simple, the difference between steam and the Nexus though, is if someone updates their mod, you can choose to get notified of it.. or a program will inform you of an update by the author and it does not affect your mod that is currently running untill you choose to update it..
That being said, when you upload a mod to steam, it affects your mods weather that person who subscribed to the mod wants to update it or not, which in turn affects your game, specially if that mod is a truck that has been updated... you can end up losing the truck untill the mod has been offically updated to steam servers...
