Engine differences
Hello, I did a quick search but I couldn't find anything helpful. I'm trying to figure out what the give is between power packs. Particularly, I'm trying to understand this:

Paccar MX-13 510
510 hp
1850 lbs. torque at 1000 RPM
$42,800

Cummins X15 565
565 hp
1850 lbs. torque at 1150 RPM
$39,550

My newborn baby truck brain is looking at the two and saying Cummins has a lot more horses, so how come Paccar is more expensive? Does the torque-RPM difference mean that much? Is there perhaps something I'm not seeing in the numbers here or something that isn't readily obvious, like fuel consumption? I'd appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction!

A lot of it based upon your fuel consumption Paccar is more economical than a Cummins engine.
That number you see 1850 pounds of torque at 1000 rpm means youll get that much torque at that rpm range
Less rpm you give to the engine the better your fuel economy will be..

Now Cummins you'll see it requires a little bit more rpm to get that number but has more horses in turn will have a little more push to it but will cost you more in the long haul because of the fuel consumption

Awesome, this is exactly the kind of feedback I needed. Thank you very much Marcaus!

Torque is king in a tractor engine, the more you can apply the more you can move.

Horse power is how fast u hit the wall . Torque is how far I shove that sucker u could have 700 horses and very lil torque and be a dog.. Gearing and Torque is the answer to a pulling machine

In the case you showed, I'd go with the Cummins, even though I hate those motors. I run an engine pack so I always choose CAT or Detroit if I can.

Good things to know... I think on that note it's high time I added an engine pack as well, since I've already modded the game to hell and back anyway :D

Torque is a bang bang deal all it does is help you get up from a dead stop to climbing up a mountain the more you have the better and the heavier loads you can pull, but at a price of fuel consumption..
Horsepower comes to play when keeping your speed on the road and when your engine isn't under load anymore ..
Best way to put it you'll see a big farm tractor pulling a big ripper (plow) in the ground but that tractor only has 300 horses but it's torque ratio is say 3000 at 1200 rpm wich is like double to Say what a semi truck would have, but that tractor isn't able to hold a constant 75 miles down the highway either

The fuel consumption will go down with more torque in game. This is due to the more poweful engine being able to use a higher gear more often.
Only thing that matters in game is torque. HP and displacement makes no difference.

Displacement is where the fuel economy of the engine is derived from in game, not torque. You are right about horsepower tho.

It just is more $$ in the game (price may include 1 or 2 warrantied fuel injectors:steamsad: ) The mx is also available 6 levels sooner.

Yes, generally a lower rpm max torque spec will produce max horespower at a lower rpm also. It will also effect the effiecent/effective operating range of the engine or the "rpm sweet spot".

Ive never driven a MX-13, but I can say the ISX-15 is nice from 1250-1800/1850, cruise about 1400/1650rpm depending on grade/load, gets poor/reasonable/exellent fuel economy depending on your foot.
In the game ATS have tried both the MX-13 and ISX-15, not alot of differance but you may notice the differance of torque to low rpm and horsepower at higher rpm.

If your curious my in game W900 has the Cat C15, 18-speed.

Thier is no displacement setting in the games engine files.

Displacement is the "volume" line.

And no displacement have no bearing on fuel consumption currently is my finding.
The Paccar MX-13 and Cummins ISX15 both have same torque and use exact same amount of fuel. I have tested this.

If this was fixed in the latest 1.5 beta build then its all good, but it has not worked before.
