Uploading to Steam Workshop for ATS
So I found a tutorial and I'm confused... it looks like we can't upload ATS-Native *.SCS files to the workshop? We have to pull everything out of the (compressed) *.SCS file in to a folder and upload that?

I guess this explains why I don't see any of the very large "100 trailer packs" on the steam workshop, they're all on independant mod websites.. because outside of the SCS file they're like 2.4 GB, but wrapped into an SCS file correctly and they're just 600 MB.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this.. seems ludicrous to me. Is this really the only way to submit mods to the workshop?

This is interesting. I'm waiting to see what others say. It doesn't make sense that you cannot upload a mod in the format the game uses.
So no one knows how to upload mods to the steam workshop as *.SCS files?

You have to use the SCS Steam Uploader, no ifs ands or buts. But at least SCS still lets us use mods outside of the workshop, so there's that.

I don't know what the max limit is on some mods for the workshop, I've seen some get pretty large on their own.

You do realise that an .scs file is just a .zip file that has been renamed right?

I see .zip files in WorkShop on a regular basis .. like 4 out of 5 mods are called "universal.zip".
The other 20% are generally an uncompressed folder.
But we've know for a very long time now that expanded folder structure works just fine in our mod folders so I don't see any big kafuffle about having to be in .scs format.

Yes of course I know, I've made my own mods. I just didn't think that the workshop supported .SCS files at all. I'll have to look for the SCS uploader.

There's no reason to use .scs format at all. There never was.

People just assumed in the early days of the game that .scs was required, it never was.

Steam doesn't support the .scs extension, so you'd have to use the normal .zip extension instead.

FYI even though the game and steam workshop support open folder structure, it is still best to use an archieve as some AV software really hogs the system trying to read all the files in larger mods.

You do realize that some of the trailer packs I have downloaded off the independant ATS mod websites are upwards of 2-4 GB uncompressed, outside of a SCS file right? And down to 400-600 MB compressed inside a scs file.

That's an awful lot of data, uncompressed, to ask anyone to upload or download. There is a -BIG- reason for SCS files to exist and it should be used for big mods. For steam to not support it at all is astounding to me.. maybe we can upload it as zip but.. if the game has a native, compressed-format alternative, I don't understand why we can't just use it.

It's zipped. Just zip it up. Same difference.
