Ideally, the oversize banner and flags should just appear on your truck when you take an oversize load at the job selection screen.
Exactly, it should work similar to the beacons. Once you purchase it just hit a button to furl or unfurl it.
I like that idea. I have the DLC, but I don't put the banner on my trucks because the majority of my loads are normal trailers. I do have beacons on most of my trucks because they can be switched on & off.
Definitely worth leaving a suggestion for this on the SCS forum.
I haven't gotten the heavy cargo DLC yet because I just started getting established with (2) 5 truck garages, a 3 truck garage, and starter garage that I reassigned a different driver to. But for that you do not need tall speed gearing, you need something geared down to get moving.
I did see a real truck with oversize banner and flags. Did not get a real good look at the truck model, but it had windows on sides of sleeper, and looked like a T680 in red similar to one I have. I don't know how heavy the load was, but several pieces of framework were wider than the trailer.
Under what conditions or type of load do you need to use beacons on the cab?
I like to use one truck so I've set up a W900 with a 6x4 chassis, the smallest cat motor, and an 18 speed. It's about as balanced as I can make it for all types of loads according to the little chart.
And besides if you keep a spare truck just for oversize loads, you can't pick up a job you find with it anyway because if you switch to that truck, A. you'll be back at whatever city your garage is in, and B. Time will have passed and the job will probably be gone.
As far as conditions for what qualifies as an oversize load, a good rule of thumb, if the load is wider than a lane, or needs a permit for weight exemption to move it, it's oversize. Not true for everything, but a generalization.
An obvious sign that it's wide enough for oversized markings is that it's wider than the *trailer*, as most trailers are right at the 8'6" width limit. Lanes are usually 10' wide.
Weight...interstates and US highways, 80,000lbs gross. State highways vary.
This is why I leave the banner off my truck all the time, even though I'm pretty much exclusive to the heavy loads. Bobtailing with an oversize load banner? But Officer, I swear I'm pulling a load of the Emperors new clothes! (And I don't think there is a banner available for my bull bar.)
Exactly, that's why it needs to be a switch like turning on the beacons to furl/unfurl it once you buy it.
