Programmable side switch panel
G'day all,
I've been using my CH Products Throttle Quadrant for extra switches and buttons.
It works OK, but I'd like something like a G13 from Logitech, which has more functions.
It would be nice with my Logitech G920 + Shifter.

Has anybody had any experience with this?
Secondly, what's the difference with G13 & G13 Advanced?

Respectfully,
Vernon

Found this Vernon, might not answer completely your question but if you check out the post by Simple-T it gives his set up for ATS.

I use the Saitek Side Panel for Farming Sim and find it to be perfect for use in ATS and ETS2. Not suggesting you get it instead but you may like to check it out.

Regards,
Willy

I have the G13. Works fine. The keys can be easily redefined/programmed through the profiler's UI, though it's also fully programmable with LUA scripting for keys, joystick and display.

The thumbstick is an analogue 2 axis joystick that can be used for both mouse and key emulation (and of course a native analogue joystick controller). I have it on the desk to the immediate left of the wheelbase where I actually use it for almost all of my gaming - never use the main keyboard at all in ATS specifically.

Don't know anything specifically about the Advanced.

G'day Willy & Fury6,
Thank you both for your quick responses. They have answered my question and I am interested in giving the G13 the nod, but, because it lays fairly flat, and also is quite large, I was wondering about another type of keypad.

The usb keypads that would be used as an add-on for a laptop...
1. Would they be programmable [in game]?
2. Having 19 or 20 buttons would suffice, and I would be able to mount it on a second shifter mount, on the left side, for my GTOmega Wheel Stand. I could mount it on there using double sided foam tape [or such like].

What do you think of that idea. Some of those keypads are mechanical and some Jell.
Some are illuminated, and some not.

I'm not so worried about price as about size and space to place it on the left side of my wheel.

Cheers,
Vernon

I have no idea about the keypads Vernon but if you are worried about size then maybe you might like to check usb button boxes out. I have given a few links:

http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/in-stock-now.html

https://evolpcgaming.com/store/product/8-heavy-hauler/

http://stores.ebay.com/BBJ-SimRacing

Thanks Willy,
I had a look at the three URL's you included.
I'm amazed that all of the edited I've searched, and these that you offered are all sourced, GBR (UK).

Isn't there anyone smart enough over here?
Geeeee!

There are a couple in eBay that caught my eye. Simple boxes and lotsa momentary buttons.

I even looked at buying a BBI-32 Button Box Interface and building my own. All I have to do is decide which type of switches/buttons I want.

I think that most of them will be non-latching (momentary) buttons.

Thanks for your help Willy. Much appreciated.
Cheers,
Vernon
No problem Vernon, glad to help.

By the way, derekspearedesigns.com is a U.S. company.
I spent quite a while drilling through Derek's site.
Wow!!! That's a lot to take in!
I think his site has what I want, so now I'll have to go back there and make some clear decisions as to what I need.
Thanks again Willy.
Cheers mate.
Vernon
I have a http://derekspearedesigns.com/dsd-race-king.html which I have had for a few years and it is well worth the money. I have used it for Asseto Corsa, Dirt Rally, Elite Dangerous and of course ATS/ETS2.

I picked this model because it had the most variety of switches/dials and stuff. When I buy my next one I will not get this model, not because it is flawed but because I didn't know what I needed. For example I have never needed one of the covered switches [which look cool but are impracticable] but I didn't know this when I got mine. I'm older and wiser now. Think for a few days what your needs are before you put your money down.
Good point Dave,
I appreciate your post because I'm not sure which one I'd choose either.
Two covered switches wouldn't work with ATS/ETS2 because only one momentary button would be used for ignition and also engine starter.

I use my CH Throttle Quadrant, but that is six double direction momentary switches. What I think I need would be a bunch of momentary buttons.

Even my transmission used only two buttons for the retarder 1,2,3,4 and retarder off. Same with Jake Brake. One button would do.

There is a "knock-off" of the Logitech G13 ($26.00) which would be nice except for being too large and having a joystick that I wouldn't use unless I bought Farm SIM 17. 😢😡😕😉

Cheers for now, until more tips and ideas come forward.
Vernon.

I hate using the keyboard when playing any simulator game. This goes back to my Flight Simulator days. When I disassembled my Flight Simulator and converted to a driving simulator, I re-worked the Switch Boxes for use in ATS.
Here is a picture of the current setup, and additional pictures of the two Switch Boxes.

The 20 Switch Box uses a USB Interface available here:

A couple of project boxes, switches, and a Label Maker and you're in business.

G'day George,
Firstly in reply to your posting:
We're almost neighbors. That's pretty nice, I think. Often I regret the fact that I'm nowhere close to a like-minded fellow in the Sim World.
I live on 40 acres just 3 miles south of I-40 at Anvil Rock Rd., which you will probably know is 14 miles West of Seligman. Wow! How nice.
Incidentally, you almost look like me as well! Isn't that scary?

Anyway, more similarities...
My Wheel Stand is a GTOmega and it looks like yours is the same.
Your Wheel, pedals and Shifter appear to be Thrustmaster. Mine is Logitech G920 + Shifter.
Where you have your button boxes, is roughly where I have my CH Products Throttle Quadrants; one on each side of the desk.
My PC is a custom built CyberPowerPC which is a few years old, but still up to date [kinda]. More on that later.
I even notice that we watch the same channel [DirecTV 360] though I don't use my Sim Monitor for TV.

My wife and I normally go shopping; Safeway, Olsen's Grain etc., in your home town and I'd be delighted [weather permitting] to visit you on such an occasion.
I did request your "Friendship" in Steam, and hope you will agree.

Looking at your button boxes, I'd assume they are possibly RS project boxes.
I do agree with you that Momentary Buttons are all I really need for my projects as well. I have the Momentary I-O-I Switches on the CH Quadrants. I just need more of them.
I'd like to get rid of my keyboard altogether, with one exception; how do I label my saved files?

I have given some thought to building my boxes, though with RS almost non-existent , I wonder where I might get my boxes and buttons without having to cross the river to the Socialist Republic... That we can discuss soon.

I even have FSX and a huge numper of A2A Simulations aircraft, but I'm not ready to dispense with that yet. Considering another Wheel Stand so I can "Plug and Play" at the same Sim PC.

I'm delighted you contacted me on this post, and perhaps we can email or phone each other in future?
Cheers,
Vernon

I know it's an old post, but I still need help
FIVE year necro. :steamfacepalm:
You just forgot to give any details of what this "help" might be referring to.
It takes the same effort to start a thread as to pointlessly necro one.:steammocking:
