Does matching up any transmission with engine make a difference to drivability? I have a mod pack of engines and there are transmissions with different ratios, 10 speeds with 3.75 ratio, 13 with 3.55 and a 18 with 3.25. Does this actually make a difference with fuel economy in the game or is it mainly going to only reflect on the engine RPMs at cruising speed? I know about gearing (automotive as opposed to trucks) and i know that in the real world truckers will pair up the engine output to a transmission best suited for the loads theyre hauling.

*currently using a Cummins 444 (520hp, 1600nm) with a Eaton 18spd.

Just curious if the game takes it into factor or if I'll always be getting 5.8MPG (loaded @ 40tons)

Thanks!

I'm running a Pete 389 with the real engines mod. Im running the Cat C15 550hp, 18 speed with 3.25 gears and im averaging 6.3mpg or so.

The cummins 444 is going to suck more fuel than the newer engines just like in real life.

Usually Id run a c15 625, but I switched to a N14 then to the 444. They sound more grumbly, only reason I chose them.

I'll use this example from my coast 2 coast map run. I left LA and went to Portland, Maine. I got around 6.7 mpg on that trip when the truck wasn't on the gas and wasn't pulling major hills. The truck was a W900 with a 550 C15 CAT, 18-speed Eaton with 3.25 rears and 300 gallon tanks, running with a trailer about 40,000lbs. I was running 72 majority of the time and stopped to fuel probably two or three times. I think the game does account for it but not really severly. Personally, I would run 3.25 or 3.36 gears with that Cummins 444.
