Newer cards run with openAl or something in them lines AKA Vulkan and not gl
(opengl) is bein replaced so you might want to look into it
I'm using a 9700m GT, so it's an older card that definitely doesn't support Vulkan. However, I ran ETS2 perfectly in openGL a few years ago. I haven't attempted to play it yet, maybe I'll install and see if it also has the same issue.
Edit: Okay, I downloaded ETS2, but it also does the same thing. I have no idea why, because I ran the game completely fine in the past year or two. Maybe MDL is right, maybe an update broke both games on Linux, considering ETS2 usually receives the same updates that ATS does.
Also to if i was you i would consider upgrading your graphics card.
SCS is moving away from the older harware and (32 bit) os. That may also be a reason for the games recent issues that your having.
Hmm, nope. Didn't help. The config file does get recreated, but same issue. What distro/kernel are you using? I'm using the 4.8 kernel on 16.04 Ubuntu MATE. Maybe you're running an updated kernel or distro?
I've heard about that, but I doubt that SCS would get rid of OpenGL completely. I imagine they'll have seperate support for OpenGL and Vulkan. My GPU is definitely old, but it had no problems running the game in the past. I'd love to upgrade, but I'm using a laptop and I'd generally have to build an entirely new PC. I honestly don't play that many demanding games to justify doing that, nor do I have the funds right now.
As for architecture, I haven't used a 32-bit system in years! I'm personally glad they're phasing out support for 32-bit.
But I guess if all else fails, I can just run the game in WINE.
Huh, so there's a way to roll back updates? How would I go about doing this? I was under the impression that once a game updates, you can never go back to the previous one.
Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out! I'll test the 1.5 update when I get a chance and I'll report here if it runs or not.
as for the game being broken, it certainly isnt. perhaps there are issues with specific configurations, but the game is not fundamentally broken.
what do you get from
make sure the nvidia driver is used and not whatever the kernel driver is called, nouevo or something like that. might have to get the latest driver from nvidia or use a ppa to install them, might be the whole problem.
The only thing that pops up from that command is "configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0". But yes, I'm using the latest proprietary Nvidia driver for my GPU. I can't get good frames period, if I try to use nouveau. I never even attempted ATS with them. Also I forgot to mention, but I ditched vanilla Ubuntu yesterday in favor of Ubuntu MATE.
Anyway, I did what MDL suggested and rolled back to update 1.5 and the game boots up fine with no issues! There must be something wrong with update 1.6, that's the only thing I can think of since it boots up fine in 1.5. I read the changelog for 1.6 though, and there doesn't seem to be anything weird going on with it that would make it do this, who knows. I guess I'll just stick with 1.5 for the time being.
Good idea! The more they know about this issue, the faster they can get it fixed. I know they read these discussions here on Steam once in awhile, but probably safer to just post on the forum. Thanks for the help regardless.
