yeah true, but you never know we may get a 2017 Freightliner Argosy licensed in the game. I don't know if Peterbilt or Kenworth still make Cabovers but I would love to see some Cabovers in the game.

Doubtful because production of the Argosy stopped some time ago and it's now only offered as a glider kit. Don't think Freightliner would allow that to happen.

Kenworth still produce their own K200 (?) for the Australian market, but not for the US. Not sure about Peterbilt though.

It's simple basically...

Cabovers offer less engine space for the huge engines americans use, offer less space to work on harder to reach engines (The cab has to be tilted to be able to reach it) wich increases maintentance costs and cabovers offer less safety for the driver, since he hasn't got this big space in front of him... Also, Nose-models tend to offer more 'living space' for the driver/owner

Then why do we Europeans use them so much in stead of the nose-models, well, because we have to...

First of all, a big difference is, as far as I know, size limitations in US (and I believe Australia too) are based on the size of the cargo area, whereas in Europe, size limitations apply to the whole truck, front to back.. Every inch you use for the tractor, can't be used for cargo.. So Tractors are made as short as possible.. Second difference is that Europeans need less space for their engines because of different philosofie... Americans believe in 'There is no substitute for cubic inches', whereas European car'/truck manufacturers have always been using alternative ways to increase engine power, so European engines are smaller then the US ones.. Third big difference is, that in Europe, most drivers aren't the owners of the truck they drive, so their influence over the model is limited. Big trucking companies will order a bunch of new trucks to replace their old ones, and basically the driver, if he's very lucky, might have some influence on how the truck is equiped, but hardly ever on what type of truck gets bought.. In US I believe most drivers own their own truck and therefor often pick one that offers space and comfort, but may be a little less practical..

Because we use smaller cars and trucks in Europe, are road system is not very suitable for the huge american trucks, so they driving one down here is a real challenge...

Dude, the engines are no bigger then what you see in European trucks. Hell, some engines are directly related to Engines seen in Europe. They are all about the same sice, 12 - 13 liters up to around 15 - 16 for the big trucks, then smaller might have 9 or 7 liter engines.

Whats even better, many of these American companies are owned by European manufacturers too...

Volvo and Scania's strongest engines ate 16 liters, their more normal 400- 500 hp engines are 12 - 13 liters. Power ranging from 370 hp or so to 750!

I've not found a single stock engine in US that produce 750 hp yet, thats not been tuned in any way. Maybe there is one but I've not found one yet. Volvo have had that in their trucks for quite a few years, and Scania have 730 hp, all things you should know if you played ETS2 but maybe you only have ATS.

In cars your assessment of engines in US compared to well most of the world is correct, American's like their big engines with alot of torque, one big factor for that is diesels are not as common in the US, here if we want some good old torque we buy a diesel.

400 - 500 nm is plenty for a normal car or even SUV beyond that you're just showing off.
My favorite example is a Volvo Diesel, the D4 option, 420 - 440 nm and 180 - 190 hp depending on model year. Couple that with more and more gears these days, you got all the power you need, and add to that, crazy fuel economy if driven correctly. And thats in a pretty big luxury car. The new S and V90's sure are lucury cars these days.

What I find really crazy and stupid in the US is how much they pull with their pickup trucks and the speeds they do it at.

Fast Lane Truck showed just how bad of an idea it is, not their intention but they nearly rearended a vehicle that had broken down in a tunnel with a big pickup pulling a 3 ton trailer... thats 6 or so ton of mass coming at (60 - 75 mph)100 - 120 km/h... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane. In Europe you are limited to (50 mph)80 km/h in most cases. Even a normal car is pulling more modest weights. The reason for this can be seen easily, just try take a normal every day car and push it around a track with alot of breaking and see how long those breaks will hold up. Imagine how hard the breaks have to work and how poorly they will work if you pull 6 - 10 ton trailers or more wich some of the big pickups can do. Sure, the weight and the trailer breaks will help in a way to slow you down too but its still insanity to be driving as fast as they do. Same for the big trucks, doing 75 mph... while we do 50 - 55 in Europe and I believe in most other places too.

Sane people in Europe use a small proper truck of some sort or even a big one not a pickup truck that takes up huge space and is way bigger and also less efficient then any normal truck (european standards here) anyone calling a glorified pickup and TRUCK needs fist to the face. -.- Not some stupid gooseneck trailer thats longer then a 40 ton truck and trailer would be in Europe... hell, a F-350 is probably alot longer then a normal tractor unit is here in Europe. And will get worse economy at max load then say a Volvo FH13 460 hp would get.
Things will get a little better now with the 10 speeds showing up in the Pickups but still wont match a proper truck with a 12 speed and proper good old diesel torque with everything focused on profitability and efficiency and not make your weiner grow another inch...

I'm doing another rant... xD

About the COE trucks, I'd love to see them. But looks unlikely and its not a huge deal, plenty of mods that do that. :)

There are "new" cabovers being sold and built but as damn, whats it called... aah Glider kits!
Believe they take a chassi, a new one and put engine and drivetrain from a doner truck. Something about tax laws and getting around emissions and ♥♥♥♥...
Would be cool to see Glider Kits in ATS, as its something thats pretty big over there but doubt we will. Probably a licensing nightmare.

LOL.. I have been a professional driver for 30 years now... My dad used to say we don't have blood in our vains but diesel-oil..

I agree with you on the 12 to 16 litre for European trucks, mostly 6 cilinders straight as opposed to V8 wich I believe is more popular in US (and among Scania lovers.. And I'll admit, the sound does give you a hard on..) In ETS2 My truck of choice is the 750bhp Volvo.. but if I owned a RL trucking company I'd say 550 is more then enough.. 10 years ago I worked as an international coach driver and my 30 ton coach (when full..) had 420bhp wich was more then enough to drive through the alps and the Pyrenees and any other mountain range I encountered during the 9 years I did that...

Anyway.. My point.. I kind of feel I do have a clue wth I'm talking about.. No offense....

Twenty five years too late as we don't see cabover like we did back in early 90s.

I know this thread is about official trucks but for anyone interested in a very good mod cabover truck, I highly recommend this truck. It is excellent and the detroit diesel engines sound very good.

Definitely tempted... It looks cool, despite its small engine (350bhp)
Would be my first mod in ATS/ETS2 (in ETS2 I have used mods in my daughters account to give her max level and to start a few profitable self-sustaining companies so she's got a sh*tload of money and a constant moneyflow, but she's 10 and just wants to drive, not be bothered by economics... but on my own account I still play vanilla

Add it to your game, game modded. Remove it from your game, vanilla.

It will cause no problem and is a great cabover truck. Also it has a lot of engines to choose from and they go above 350 HP. Give it a try, you don't like it then remove it.

Just to add: There is a problem with some engines which he has a fix for but if you stick with a detroit diesel engine you will have no problem.

Well... In all honesty, from a professional point of view, why would you want a cabover if manoeuvrability isn't an issue...

Btw... I can't hear or read the word 'cabover' without hearing the first verse of 'convoy' in my head... :

It was the dark of moon
On the sixth of June
And a Kenworth pullin logs
A cabover Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin hogs
We was headed for bear
On I-1-0
Bout a mile out of Shakey Town
I said Pig Pen this here's the rubber duck
And I'm about to put the hammer down.

Ohh, let me continue with the chorus. Got the song running when :longhaul:in':104:

'Cuase we got a little convoy
Rockin' through the night
Yeah, we a little ol' convoy
Ain't she a beautiful sight
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothing gonna get in our way
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
'Cross the U-S.A
Convoy
Convoy

Happy :longhaul:in' and :104:
