Question regarding Engines
Hello guys,

I'm asking myself, why 3 of the 4 trucks have a 550 HP Engine at maximum and only the Kenworth W900 has a 650 HP Engine.

Up to now, I always tended to buy the truck with the most Horsepower under its belt but I'm asking myself, if there are any advantages, which the 550 HP Engines have over the 625 HP Engine? Otherwise, it wouldn't be so widespread, wouldn't it?

I don't know the details of engine capacity for the different trucks so I will leave that for someone else to answer.

I prefer the lower HP engines, they haul anything anywhere and I use an extremely heavy trailer mod. Even in ETS2 I do not have any engine higher than 540HP, again using an extremely heavy trailer mod.

This is in real life im gonna be refering to the game does it to but the wheight is way off to have any impact on the way it feels if you dont warp the time down you wont notice it in game..

The more horses you got the faster your gonna get up to speed..
Torque is the value at wich of how much you can pull from a dead stop and get you up on moutain or hill etc.. Think of it in a way if you riding a bycle you can get up to speed really quick then you get to a hill and slow down then your torque comes into play. So torque is the backbone to a semi truck along with tractors.. I got to put this in there to but to every truck and tractor the turbo is the heart and soul of the engine without it you would be flatfooted.. Thats why you always see alot of them fancy turbo coolers and etc on them.
To answer your question on the matter of wich why there not wide spread..

This is because todays trucks "peterbilt 579" "kenworth t680" are so much lighter compared to the Kenworth w900, and of course this all depends on the frame the truck is sitting on.. Todays trucks are bein built with lighter materials and so forth and there is less of a demand for a big engine for a "625" horspower beast lol.. Bigger engines translates to more fuel cost to companys and is another reason why you wont see them on todays trucks so in other words it would be completely overkill to put that 625 horspower motor on the peterbilt 579 or kenworth t680

CAT, before the EPA shut them down, made the 625 "King of the Hill" CAT as the big dog of trucking motors. The W900 ran that motor like a king, and so did many other long-nosed trucks. Why doesn't a T680 have it? Well, that truck was built with fuel efficiency in mind, just like the 579 was sorta kinda. The 389 was meant to be a replacement for the 379 but lot of owner operators said ew gross and it's ugly, due to the headlights and other things. Most of your lighter trucks won't be pulling the real heavy stuff like the W900. That being said, the W900 and the 625hp motor is a remnant of what trucking used to be before the EPA came in and ruined things.

HP is important, but torque is king.

So the Kenworth W900 is heavier and needs that 625 HP engine to deliver the same performance as a Kenworth T680 with its 550 HP engine but the latter also uses less fuel?
Or is the T680 not that much lighter as it seems?

Because if you look at the HP and the torque alone, the W900 would be superior but I don't know, if the game takes truck weight into account. Atleast the weight of the truck doesn't appear e.g. in the Truck Dealer Window.
