The only caveat about RTA's mods is that they are very high poly models, so a low end system will struggle with running them.
I have a friend who works for a well known European truck manufacturer. He has been talking with Kenworth Australia. Their legal department is fully aware of this infringement, but wasn't sure who/where to find the people selling it. Said friend gave them full details of RTA and KenAus legal are now looking into them.
Whether they decide to take any action remains to be seen, if they do take action, I'm not sure how that will go for people who purchased the model. Under UK laws this would fall under the group of IP theft, PIRACY, and counterfeiting. Not sure how the Aussies view it, or if they could take action against a Russian guy. But thought it might be wise to put it out there.
With it classing as piracy, buyers could be subject to fallout if anything was to happen.
It's also worth noting that said friend reported them to other companies where they are selling their copyrights for profit as well. Even TurboSquid was pulled into it for selling the models RTA buy too.
Personally I am not sure what I want to happen, I am against paid mods so I would love to see something come of it for that reason alone, on the flip side, as a modder, it could have negative fall back on the whole community if they did take action.
Hopefully an out-of-court agreement can be made, if it comes to that, and RTA can continue producing models but with manufacturer's consent. That'd be great.
Although, they've dropped the ball here I think because they're now selling Volvos in addition to the Renault they released earlier.
Maybe messing about with one manufacturer's product didn't really bat anyone's eyelids on the "fifth floor", but several labels.. well.. that's different.
Not only that, but if Truck Manufacturers catch wind that Random people are using their vehicle models and brandings, free of charge and then seeling them FOR A PROFIT to members of the community, they could easily sue all mod makers and potentially pull the plug on any relations with SCS now and in the future.
So please, refrain from BUYING mods from these scammers. Just download free mods from free sites that will not get anyone in trouble.
