Lost profile due to a new hard drive maybe?
Today I changed out my hard drives and reloaded american truck simulator and found out it wants me to create a new profile. I uninstalled the game before and reloaded it and my profile stayed intact with all my current progress. Could it be that I changed out my hard drive?
If so, I backed up my files on an external hardrive. Can someone let me know if there is a way to regain my profile through my external hard drive or through steam itself?
Thanks in advance!

your going t have to take the profile folder or save and put it into the profile folder or the save into the save folder

All your saved game files were in your Documents/ ATS folder. If you saved that ATS folder that was in your Documents folder all you have to do is drag and drop it back into your Documents folder on you new hard drive. If you didn't back that up somewhere it's time to start again as ATS and ETS2 do not have Steam cloud saves.

well just checked my back up hard drive and it's not there. Backup must of failed!
Looks like I have a ton of driving to do! I was up to 30 trucks and five garages...... :(

Should be in your "Documents" or "My Documents" folder if the backup has that folder. Under {drive letter}:\Users\{name}\Documents\American Truck Simulator on the backup drive.

Another option is to find a program that can recover "deleted" data that hasn't been overwritten.

ok...I did find them again. There is like 43 profiles. Do I copy and paste them all into the document folder of the new hard drive ot just one of them? I tried pasting all of them in American Trucking/Documents/profile. ran the game and it's still asking me to create a new account.

Easiest to just copy the whole ATS folder into your current Documents folder on the main hard drive.

OK, I just tried your Suggestion Jonbo and still nothing. I copied my saved ATS folder in my documents from my external hard drive and wrote over the ATS documents on my new drive. When I first open ATS it looks like it is going to launch, but then a split second later another screen apperas asking me to create a new profile. If I create a new profile do you think when I launch the game I can then open my old profile? I really do not want to lose my 195 hours of effort. Thanks Guys!

Copy the existing ATS folder on your backup drive onto your Desktop, just in case something goes wrong. Uninstall ATS. Delete the ATS folder in Documents on your main hard drive if it doesn't do it automatically. Download and install ATS again. Copy the ATS folder (not cut) from Desktop to Documents before loading the game for the first time again and see if that fixes it.

You're welcome, good luck. If it doesn't work, I have another idea.

that didn't seem to work either. When I copied the folder from the desktop and pasted into the the documents folder.....I have American truck simulator-shortcut. Then I loaded the game and have another folder thats says Amercian truck Simulator. Should I delete the folder that it created when I reinstalled the game? Or what is your other idea? Thanks for the help!

Delete folder in Documents, copy and paste it again but do not choose 'Paste Shortcut' or 'Paste as Shortcut'. Just Paste.

No Bueno... I just pasted it and it copies in documents as ATS-shorcut. Even tried just renaming it to ATS and it still doesn't work.
Losing hope here...Any other suggestions? Like I said it looks like it is going to launch the game for a second then it opens another screen for creating a new profile.

Does the folder on the desktop have the word shortcut at the end?
