Makeshift achievements SUCKS
There's like 75 things where you need to fish up a chest to get them. Now, I haven't been playing too long yet, but I like fishing, and I haven't found a single piece yet. Multiplying that by 75??? This is likely literally hundreds of hours of fishing. This has not been thought out well, and is likely going to ruin the experience for me. I can already see myself, having done everything else to do in the game, and not even being half done this achievement.

They include all these RNG mechanics to keep you playing, they don't care how frustrating or horrible designed it is, they will keep adding more. It only pushes people away tbh, especially since it's not consistent and has no system in place to favor the player in any way, like other gacha games have so you can get everything after trying for X times. Here if your luck sucks you could be stuck without 1-3 items for years :/ and I agree it's horrible design, especially tied to fishing RNG and then box RNG, double RNG to ♥♥♥♥ you over.

Totally agree. With the bonus aspect, this problem would be solved if there was a lure attachment that gave like x50 to the odds of getting a makeshift box.
Like, even if it was literally guaranteed, it would still be a huge chore to fish them all up!

Yeah the double RNG aspect killed it for me, used to have fishing parties back in the day just for makeshift but I only wanted the umbrella.. 500 boxes later, no umbrella. No more fishing for me after that lmao.
I wish they would change the makeshift from pieces that can repeat to actual recipes so you can make yourself duplicates if you want to, but at least this way you can get everything without frustration. Not like you can trade furniture anyway.

How do fishing parties work? Does everyone get what each person fished? How big can the party be? That could be a way to reduce the time drastically.

I don't think this is the answer, I think it just doesn't need to be such low RNG rate, why do gamemakers actually think these horrible chances to obtain items is fun? The additional problem seems to be when you do get a box you open it and it is a duplicate of something you already have 2 or 3 of...they need to REMOVE that aspect. I don't seem to have a problem getting boxes, I just have the problem of getting repeat items instead of undiscovered ones.

No, everyone catches their own fish. I think it just gives you more fishing skill experience. You can also get that just by standing near someone and fishing, you dont have to be on party with them.

not to mention how frustrating it can be when youre fishing next to someone and that person pulls out like 10 boxes and youre lucky enough to get one. if i see another makeshift flower pot ill probably lose it omg

We partied back then because fishing was the only party activity that gave a buff, the buff is a reduction to hook time, so fish 40% faster, better than nothing lol
we just chilled in the cave seeing each other reel those in, it was fun... at first... lol

Don't forget the Black Market (Zeki's underground) also offers makeshift items.

I found my last ones there.

So how does that work? Are there like 75 in total, and sometimes he offers them, so you have a chance to buy each one? Or are there only certain ones you can buy?

I was under the impression from the wiki (I could be wrong), that there are a few that are exclusive to Zeki, where the only way you get them is buying them. Then there's this massive lest that you can only get from fishing.

If you can buy EVERY makeshift from Zeki, that would definitely change my opinion.

Yes, there's a few that you will never get with fishing. I hit level 134 with fishing trying to get them until I found 2 at Zeki's and then I kept going there every evening and that's how I completed it.

But is the opposite true? That there are MANY that will never ever show up at Zeikis? And you must fish them? That's the thing I'm finding frustrating, if true.

Yes, so from experience, most of them can only be fished.

I was around fishing level 46 when I took this achievement seriously. I fished until hitting 134, but already around 80 or something I didn't find any new makeshift items, just the same things.

In the Black Market I found the rugs and paintings and there are several makeshift items I have NEVER seen at the Black Market.

I just got AI to do the math for me, it will take 665 waterlogged chests to have the odds be 99% that you'll complete the makeshift collection. That's a ridiculous expectation, and really makes me think that they didn't think about this at all. It should really be changed in some way (can't get doubles so you get the recipe, an attachment that guarantees waterlogged chest, or the ability to purchase all of them, etc.).

I've actually submitted a ticket to the devs with a recommendation to change this. I would recommend anyone interested in this topic to do the same. Include the odds here (665 waterlogged chests needed), and the options to fixing the problem. Hopefully they listen to their playerbase (for once, lol).

Also, online there are sections saying the odds of getting waterlogged chests, in each area, with each bait. A lot of them say 5-8% if you use a glowworm. I'm been using nothing but glow worms, and have fished up dozens of fish, and haven't gotten a single waterlogged chest. Is there something I'm missing here?
This is by far one of the worst achievements I have every pursued. I have spent far too many hours trying. They really need to adjust the RNG on this and the bugs.
