Get Palia username from Switch onto Steam acount

I wanted to try Palia, and I got it for the Switch first as I had limited space on my hard drive at the time. I eventually started playing, and when I was asked to make an account for cross-platform saves, I said 'no', thinking I could make an online account and add it later (it either didn't say on the screen or I missed it completely). The game started crashing a lot on the Switch as I was playing, so I stopped and wanted to try through Steam on my PC. I had the room for it at this point, so I downloaded it. It's the first time I played, and I wasn't asked to link an account upon making a character, and it wouldn't let me use a similar username (understandable). But, I'm left wondering how to get my old username from the Switch.

I can't link an account to my Switch after telling it no. I looked everywhere in the menus, and I even checked the site only to confirm that I can't. Is it possible to delete the Switch username data so I can use the username on Steam? It's the username I use everywhere, I would like to be able to use it without having to change it up because of a mistake I made. Would there be a period they would hold onto the username before someone else could use it? Or would I be able to claim it right after deleting the Switch account?

I searched around a bit-everything I found said to delete/rename a character you’d need to contact support. But that advice was 6 months old. Still, I’d file a ticket or contact the devs through social media if you can-I filed a ticket through support 4 days ago and haven’t heard back yet.
