Bc i want to be corrected when i get my words mixed up instead of being "mocked" im not acting like an adult? One would argue mocking a person's mistake is not very mature. But go off i guess
Spot on, imo. However, I think a lot of people get turned off too early. I did at first, then for some reason I started really finding myself playing for hours on end for some reason. Im in late game with one bundle to go and a couple of plushies to complete collection, as well as maybe 5 fish left and 3 bugs. HOT POT is the new Crack!!!
The grind stinks till you take someone with you for hunting, bug catching. The wife and I have a great hunting plan we run through when plushy hunting. Our only complaints are we cant share housing, we cant trade among each other in a way we want (which I understand to some extent, but this trade system stinks.) We work together for goals and though we are near the end, we still manage to find something to do every weekend. However, things are getting a little stale without new content.I dont want to trash the game. I have also supported the game in cash shop (4 outfits and 2 pets, 1 glider skin) cause it has given me over 200+ hrs of fun and Im still playing. It has gotten better in little bites since 2 years ago but Elderwoods really needs to hit sooner than next year. Actually, it shouldve came out about 6months to a year ago. Hopefully with the new publisher, things will get better, Even if it doesnt, I got a lot of fun time out of this title despite the poor coding, bug fixing and lack of timely content. But, I hope for the best and maybe things will get even better next year.
Things take ages to craft or convert, money is a pain in the ass to get and everything costs a fortune (even decor stuff like paintings or lamps are 4k or whatever).
When you get skills to 9 and upgrade to exquisite tools, there's nothing really left to do.
No, offering correction only works when people ask for it. Embarrassment and frustration are significantly more effective when it comes to people who act on a basis of self-assured ignorance. Their pathetic wounded pride makes sure that the experience sticks far longer than any corrections, since their unfounded arrogance means that they just shrug that right off.
Let's face it, this game is extremely generic. Palia tries to copy what most other games from genre I would call Harvest Moon-like does, but does it in bare minimum way, it's like they made a checklist during developement and they tried to go through the checklist as fast as possible to launch this game. And yea, like some people mentioned, this would be completly fine if we would know this is some kind of alpha or very early beta and we would be bombarded with more and more content soon after it launched, but this game has barely any development going on. Every big update is couple new 3d models added to the game, half/most in the premium shop.
Only thing I would agree that Palia does in unique, worth mentioning way - it is MMO, so you can encounter random people while playing, but that's all really, this is that one feature that "sells" the game.
If it wouldn't be MMO and you wouldn't be able to play with friends / spouse / random people, this game even as a free title would have barely any playerbase except some really poor and desperate people who know no better. Everything in this game is like in other similar known titles, but somehow they managed to make it feel less rewarding, less impactful, less fun in a long run.
I really enjoy Palia, but I also really enjoy Skyrim, Fallout, Rust, Ark, used to enjoy overwatch before f2p, I've played a variety of different games from different genres and enjoyed most of them.
Didn't really have any expectations for Palia before playing it, didn't know what it was but I enjoy it.
Some people play too many games and have too high expectations for other games.
Just admit that there's not enough blood and death in Palia and that's why you feel the need to bash down on those who enjoy the game.
Believe me, I wouldn't have problem with admitting it if that would be the case, I don't have problem with naming things what they are. If I would feel all this game need to be good would be killing stuff - I would say it. But I think all this game need is any new exciting stuff. I know people defending this game like to think of themselves as everyone else is bloodthirsty orc, but reality is, this game really lacks in content department. I don't need blood and death, I would prefer to see animal husbandry for example, maybe taming wild animals as companions, maybe being able craft self-made cosmetics to wear, but first hunting for recipes etc. There are many possibilities that would make end-game much more rewarding, much more interesting and could actually turn into fun content, would be content for long.
After all, most if not all MMOs true end-game content is kinda being able to show off cosmetics you have, harder to get - more proudly you wear it.
But in this game - you buy cosmetics, you can't earn them.
Many MMOs got mounts or some kind of pets you can also grind for.
Again, in this game - you buy pets, you can't earn them.
You can defend it all day long, but what you can earn in this game and what makes you feel some kind of progression ends really fast for MMO standards, for any game standards to be honest. You unlock most stuff rather fast and it's not that it's poorly balanced, it just there's not much to unlock really.
So this is where my point really stands, for some "not much to unlock" is enough to make them going for long, those people I would call people with low expectations. You might be one without even knowing you are, after all we don't know, what we don't know.
Also I don't bash anyone for having low expectations, I can have a softspot and enjoy the movie most people would call bad, but that completly different from trying to convince them that the movie is actually good, their too spoiled to enjoy it or something like that. Same with a game, I enjoyed Palia for a while but it turned out there's not much to do in a game really. Calling that out is not bashing anyone, you don't have to feel personally offended because someone criticized the game you play.
For all I care you can call me stupid bloodthirsty spoiled gamer, because I would like Palia have more to offer.
OP is completly right, the game feels like placeholder for something that seems to be undelivered so far.
The fact that others are still enjoying a game you are not enjoying without the quidance given by quests is not neccessarily explained by the fact that you must have a more refined taste in games than them.
This reminded me of the very religious person I once met online who tried to convince me that he was the smarter person for believing in god because it was 'just logical' and the 'smarter decision'.
And this is the funny part.
Yup, you absolutely right.
Palia indeed does not lack in content because you met that dude back then. And this somehow is not only relevant to what I wrote, but also completly disprove what I wrote.
You got me there.
Hey, so... they said "Who wants to tell them?". It's not like they were throwing mud at you while a circle of goons pointed and laughed. They easily could have though, as thinking the second letter of the alphabet comes first is pretty strange.
I am trying to suggest that your limited enjoyment of the game might also stem from an inability to play by setting your own goals and tasks.
Also:
You changed the goalpost from
'only people that don't play games can enjoy this game (bc they don't know any better)'
to
'only people with low expectations can enjoy this game'
after someone said that they do play a lot of games and still enjoyed the game.
What are the high expectations/high standards for a game in this genre?
I played quite a few myself and some of the more popular ones, I find atrocious and boring and can not get myself to play them- while others like them a lot. So I would like to see if some of them that do not meet my standards do meet your standards and vice versa.
If you want to quote me, quote me in proper way, instead of twisting my words everytime. It's really dishonest, what's even point of that? What are you trying to prove? That I'm full of something or that you're actually full of something?
I'm actually curious which few popular games from this genre you found atrocious and boring, yet for some reason Palia is such good game in comparison and what Palia does better what these popular games do poorly. I'm honestly curious. This is perfect opportunity for you to actually say something game and gameplay related instead of doing whatever you do so far.
When you pay nothing, every moment is a gift horse from the developers, and you are no equine dentist.
In the Greek alphabet, alpha comes before beta. That's all. No biggie.
