If hotspots are going to remain in the game then they all need to be exactly as they are on the Bahari coast. The coast has dozens of them and they respawn very quickly. It's still a bad system, but at least you're not running laps around the map looking for a measly 1-2 spots to catch fish with ludicrously low spawn rates.
For the Giant Goldfish, try Bahari instead. For pond fish, both maps have the same fish, but I found the Giant Goldfish bites more frequently in Bahari. I had this fish bite multiple times in two different ponds, both in south Bahari (below the wall). The first pond is the larger pond, just south of the wall on the west side of the map. The second is the pond just south east of the larger pond, it has a fishing pier on both sides of it. I caught multiple Giant Goldfish in both ponds. Run back and forth between the two ponds and eventually you'll get it.
My biggest problem was the Flametongue Ray, it took me 4-5 real life days to finally get this thing to bite, which it did yesterday. And then I caught a second one maybe half an hour later.
The fishing system definitely needs to change, it's not fun or balanced in the least.
Did they make it easier to land a fish once you've got a nibble? The rare ones were a huge PITA last time I played (my account is prior to their steam release).
No they haven't. its ridiculous :( The RNG is really really bad
