Unable to use the Esc key to open main menu in game

Apparently to access the main menu you have to press the Esc key, but this key has no effect in the game and so I can't access the menu.
It's a shame because I can't play the game since I have to kill the task in the task manager or do Alt+F4, so the game doesn't save my game.

I haven't found a solution on the Internet, yet I see that this Esc key problem in Palia is quite common and has existed for a long time (several months).
So before uninstalling the game :( I'm asking here in case a solution is known to the community.

Try to press "Alt+Enter" and then try the "ESC" button.

I had a similar issue originally and this worked.

"Alt+Enter" just changes your game from windowed to fullscreen.

This solution also solves the issue where buttons cannot be clicked on the menu with your mouse.

Hey no problem ! :)
I don't know if that's what fixed my problem or not, but then I set my game to windowed mode and it never did it again. The Esc key works fine now to open the main menu.
I prefer full screen mode but I don't dare put it back hehe

Try putting in in full screen windowed, (can't remember if that's the correct term for it) Should work just as windowed mode just that it takes up your screen like complete full screen does. Lately I've had to put most games in windowed full screen mode to be able to tab out of games.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share something strange I noticed. By sheer luck, I relaunched the game without changing anything, and now the Esc key works perfectly to open the menu again! It's so weird, but I’m really happy it’s fixed. Thanks so much to everyone for your help and suggestions!
