Edit: I just realized you might be referring to placed items, and I don't know the answer if so. :(
Also if you suddenly get the item limit prompt, try removing 1 tree or a flower
Limits are:
- 3.000 decoration items per plot placed
- 500 flowers, their are included in the the 3.000 also so you can place a max of 500 flowers, but then you are left with only 2.500 other decoration items.
- Edit: forget to mention the 30 building limitation is also per plot
- 8 normal chests and 3 locked chests overall on all plots. Locked chests give 100 each so 300 max capacity. Normal chest came in 3 stages, the basic one give 400 item slots each for a maximum of 3200.
Copper chests give 825 each, maximum 6.600.
Iron chests give 1.250 each, maximum 10.000.
The chests you can find in the world are just decorative item, they dont add extra item slots nor will they be usable as chest for your inventory
Items get shared between different plots, so you can place 1 chest in each of the 8 plots and can go to your items then on every plot.
The only thing that isn't seperated for every plots beside the chests are the crafting stations, they have a maximum of 30 overall on all plotes combined
And if you have decorative items over dont be afraid of throwing them into a chest, decorative items didnt add to item slots.
Thats the limits exicsting atm, but just a little extra tip if you have plots unused and your storage is getting full.
You can place any star quality meal, fish, insect and star stone.
So you can just put them into a plot and place them.
I have one plot with around 600 insects, 1 with around 400 fish, one with over 2.000 meals and one where i place all my deco items so i can look what i want and look for it then at the crafting table finding a decoration object in chests is a mess, espacially since you still dont knew how it will look ingame.
So i have a furniture store where i can look what i want, press Strg and look at the name and can build it in the needed amount.
I built on a 2nd plot, Kilima Heights map, and hit the "placeable block" limit, I have NO idea what that really means...but I counted everything:
939 Builders blocks (just round to 1000)
460 furniture items (round to 500)
235 flowers (round to 250)
125 trees
= 1875
that's not 3000 total of anything....
I don't understand the limits at all...is this game counting my 1st build too? Like how? The above explanation doesn't explain this, it doesn't add up, and looks like I'm being shorted over 1000 placeable items on this build!
"Building Blocks have a limit of 1,000 pieces (which falls under the max limit of 3,000 total decor). We are investigating the possibility to increase this limit in future patches, but do not have additional details to share at this time."

I removed some extraneous scaffolds, so I guess I'm almost at the 1000 block limit. Maybe game over, now. All I can do is buy furniture, plant flowers and trees.
Thanks for the reply, now I know what's going on.
The limit is in place for performance. It isn't just an arbitrary number. They'll increase it if/when they can.
They already could do so, but they won't. Till they work on performance for Switch it's crashing some Switchs already with 3.000 if it's near the max of 3k.
They would need to lower rendering for Switch players, otherwise this will be the bottleneck.
The Switch 1 Hardware is around as good as a PS3, a 18 year old console. The Switch 2 should be around PS4, still 11 years.
It's a mobile console in the end and even the pretty old things building in their get cuttet down even more for battery.
And even back in the day as PS3 and PS4 where new a good PC already has more power then this both.
