Daybreak Games acquired Singularity 6 - Dev of Palia
https://www.daybreakgames.com/news/dbg-s6-acquisition-announcement

A lot of notable MMOs under their belt - LOTRO, Dungeons and Dragons, MTG:O, Everquest 1 and 2.

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing but yeah.

As OP, I declare you the best reply. Congrats.

Haha, not that you care, but I definitely concur.

Well put, CMDR_Net. That's exactly how I feel after my years of experience with Daybreak and the four (and only those four, weirdly) games you mentioned. I've played Everquest the most; since release, off and on. The fact that the game is still around and FREE to experience 99+% of an absolutely unfathomably gigantic world that's still growing and being developed, every time I feel that itch again... Well, I'm grateful, for one. Best game ever made, all things considered, in my opinion.

Agree about their store, too. Only thing I'll buy on Palia's right now is a pet, and that's only because my daughter and I also play together, and she saw that they exist. The prices are just not in line with their quality/appeal. If they saved me one click per piece of loot I need to pick up, that'd be a completely different story, but it seems that's antithetical to their vision.

I won't argue with their vision, even. But I also won't buy anything until its value is in the same galaxy as its price. In my view, the worst Daybreak is capable of doing is not touching the store at all. I think they're pretty good already, and Palia's can't get much, if any, worse, imo.

I definitely care, as a new player. It's good to hear positive things about this.

You seem triggered, which makes sense considering your tag.

Sorry you spent all that time. Could've just said, "I'm incredibly stupid"

People who are incapable of making their own arguments are the first ones to resort to insults. You are too elementary.

Hey, clownshoes, you do understand that even in the Lord of the Rings lore, female dwarves have beards, right? Or do you not understand such things since you are brainwashed by a different fictional book?

Honestly, Daybreak doesn't deserve any of the credit for LOTRO or DDO, that's all Standing Stone. Those are the devs themselves, who worked for Turbine and banded together when WB was gonna give up on the games and were shutting Turbine down. They formed Standing Stone games and bought the licenses for both of those games and have kept them running ever since. Daybreak has helped to some extent but the audience for LOTRO has always been the same, they don't really attract a lot of new players. Although the scaling of the whole world trick did get a lot of attention from new voices in the online creator world. But hats off to Standing Stone for keeping those games alive. Daybreak get all the credit for EQ, since they were formed out of SOE.

I don't know any of this apparent sordid drama behind Palia as far as developers, et, blah blah blah, I just know that I enjoy playing the game with my spouse. It is fun so far, and as long as they keep the cash shop to cosmetic stuff only, that's fine.

We don't mention the "G" word around here. Only thing worse than them is Trion who totally screwed up Rift in order for that other company to buy and put in endless maintenance mode.
Trion sold Archeage which I would still be playing over Palia tbh if it still existed like it does in my memory </3

You're right, totally ruined. Really disappointing that people will no longer have the attention span to be able to read the title and respond to the question before they even consider the prospect of wading through a potentially derailed thread of comments. As I assume many similar and, well, sane humans commonly approach forums...

I should've thought about that before checking that 4chan Nazi parading as a good Christian and not an obvious bigot with nothing to offer but a collection of deliberately vague, obscure or misused words, and obvious dog whistles, to describe groups of strangers that he doesn't like and almost certainly blames for a significant chunk of his perceived problems in life.

Sarcasm/defensiveness aside: this is your standard, confidently and willfully ignorant bigot, only even more cowardly, as he disguises his true meaning, even while behind the safety and anonymity of a computer screen. If you disagree, that's fine. But just in case these types of people were to get the wrong idea and actually be encouraged by an apathetic, or any other response than a swift, easy and absolute rejection of this type of talk, knowing where it's led historically...

I'm going to do this little thing that I can do, just in case it matters on any level at all, and lest it doesn't get done. Steam thread be damned.

And yeah, lots of words that you didn't care to read. So don't. Sorry that this advice isn't necessarily helpful retroactively, but I do very much hope it proves valuable to you in the future!

Nobody cares

Pretty sure it's a very good thing. We'll see how it pans out but I was pretty happy to see the news.

How is this a good thing when historically, Daybreak destroys the games it buys?

Where's the proof? Which games did they buy and then shut down?

The only ones I can find are Planetside 1, H1Z1, and Just Survive.

Because they don't have a list, it's just made up. Daybreak will be fine for this. I often wish Daybreak would have/can still buy Rift, so that it can be further developed like their other IPs.

I've been seeing this knee-jerk reaction all over the place, talking about how they are the devil, yet I still play Lotro (17 years now) and still pop in to EQII to see what they've done.

I look forward to seeing them move the game forward, and not listening to the doom-sayers who speak with no actual examples, only rhetoric.

Can't wait to see the other zones!

Zones?

Datamining has shown one new one in the works.

At the rate S6 works it'll be 2028 before you get a fourth.

Don't know what is in the datamining, but I'm betting we'll get more as DB ramps up support.

After 1.0 gets released, they won't have any choice but to ramp up production on a new zone. There isn't anywhere left in the existing zones to put anything new.

Dragon's Prophet is a game that Daybreak shuttered within / around a year after they acquired it.

To be fair though that was also when it split from SOE to Daybreak and there were a bunch of others that merged / closed / transferred games and the game was also split between three dev studios in different countries that were doing different releases at different times so the whole thing was a mess.

Shame too because it was a great game and who doesn't love flying and fighting beside a bunch of pet dragons.

-------

As far as Palia is concerned, Daybreak needs to hit a massive major update by October, November, December at the latest. They need to show they're serious about this acquisition, like someone said in an earlier comment, these deals don't just happen over night, there should have been a plan in place before the announcement.

I paid $100 to be a "Trailblazer" for that, and it wasn't even a game. I'd call it a pre-alpha tech demo at best. Those 3 people that were still playing it at the end must have been really upset when it shut down.
