Palia
Daybreak Games acquired Singularity 6 - Dev of Palia
https://www.daybreakgames.com/news/dbg-s6-acquisition-announcement

A lot of notable MMOs under their belt - LOTRO, Dungeons and Dragons, MTG:O, Everquest 1 and 2.

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing but yeah.

Very possibly good thing if Daybreak comes in and fires all the senior level management, brings in their own management team and rehires the devs that never should have been laid off to begin with and they actually start developing the game again.

of course the other possibility is that Daybreak bought it for pennies on the dollar and are just going to milk it for everything it's worth prolonging the game being on life support for even longer before sun setting it, which they've done before.

They're pretty good in terms of keeping their servers alive. Hell, LOTRO should have died years ago, yet it's still alive today with barely anyone in-game. Same can be said for Planetside 2.

Seeing as how Everquest 1 and 2 are both still getting expansions to this day, it's a good thing.

At least it wasn't GAMIGO.

Pretty sure it's a very good thing. We'll see how it pans out but I was pretty happy to see the news.

I played EQ for 11 years and enjoyed it very much. But I quit around the time they started adding micro transactions and the game became more pay to win. They added some kind of card pack you could buy for real money, and the cards gave you mounts and gear and stuff like that.

So it could be really good, but I really fear micro transactions for things that aren't just cosmetic are coming.

Could be. I've also played EQ for a very long time, off and on, since its release. I see the fact that it's still going and I can play 99% of the game for free -- a tiny fraction of what I'll see before I inevitably burn out again -- as pretty crazy, given it came out in 1999. But your concerns are valid. Maybe EQ needs that kind of help since it's ancient, whereas Palia can be wildly more successful on the cosmetics alone?

In terms of the game staying up I'm happy. In terms of long term active development and how/what will be a micro transition we will see. Overall I'm hopefull coming from a PlanetSide 2 player. Let's hope we see meaningful updates over the next few months. I'm not ready for Palia to be on life support. A new roadmap would not hurt either given that the company changed ownership.

We don't mention the "G" word around here. Only thing worse than them is Trion who totally screwed up Rift in order for that other company to buy and put in endless maintenance mode.

Daybreak are acquiring all kinds of woke games to expand their portfolio and ones that aren't woke are made woke, like LOTRO - where they added beards for women and female hairstyles for male characters... while the server and client performance is so bad, even people physically close to the server with less than 20 ms ping have lag, rubber-banding and up to 15 seconds freezes, especially in combat, the Warden class is broken unplayable due to the lag.

The client is busted to the limit with FPS drops to zero, doesn't matter what hardware you have, it struggles with all the content and high polygon count and texture size, they can't or won't fix it, but made the game woke and then ban everyone who speaks against it because it breaks the lore as if they are talking about politics and try to censor this problem by pretending it doesn't exist. That's not politics, George Bush is politics.

EverQuest 1 and 2 are in the same state as LOTRO - the games are struggling from client, performance, mechanics issues, like EQ2 being overbloated with skills and EQ1 still having so many assets un-updated, but they made both games woke instead.

This game is already woke - it doesn't even have genders, it's a game about nothing so nobody can get triggered over anything, so it's natural for Daybreak to want to get it.

You seem triggered, which makes sense considering your tag.

I assumed they were shopping around since the last layoff. Every day since, their Discord numbers have gone up by 250ish, like clockwork.

People who are incapable of making their own arguments are the first ones to resort to insults. You are too elementary.
